SnapChat is a nightmare too.

SnapChat and Kik are very often used as chat and recruiting sites for nefarious reasons.

I wouldn't let me kids on them...ever!

SnapChat is a bit more mainstream. I can accept my kids using it. Kik is the worst. They cloak themselves by being based in Canada, and claiming they can't see what their users are doing, and claiming not to retain chat logs.

I just did a case this week with Homeland Security and Kik was responsive with logs, subscriber info, IP addresses, even the type of device used to register the account (which was key).

Note: Whenever my boss says "No heavy lifting", expect to be lifting heavy things.

No doubt SnapChat is more mainstream. I know several people who use it, but, with that said, I told my kids to use other means because it is way too easy to end up talking to someone they don't need to.

I always take it as a clue when a majority of those that we investigate have certain chat sites that many others don't.

I have SnapChat now as do most of my coworkers. Gives you something to do when at some meetings or training.

Whats the rule? When the parents start using it, the kids stop. LOL.

Seriously, I'd get that kid into a forensic interview, get consent for her phone, and then proceed from their. The fact he even engaged in this conversation, and his history of sending junk pics, I'd bet Massgrunts money that he sent porn to a minor, and maybe even possess child porn..

Isn't that the truth. The other day, one of my kids may a reference to the fact that "old" folks took Facebook from them. I said, "No. We just legitimized it."

When I am training, I am on SOCNET!

If y'all think your kids aren't using something because you told them not to....well I don't know your kids so I won't make assumptions but I do know other kids and I was a kid...so take from that what you will.

I use the age old parenting skill of not trusting my kids one bit . But I am a realist. I have walked up, taken the phone out of my youngest hands, and started searching. Opening each app, looking at all pics, reading texts, etc.

As KidA says, we were teenagers and teenagers will do shit. People have asked me why I don't trust my kids. I trust them more than most parents and my kids have always had a lot of freedom which they have earned based on their generally good behavior. But in no way shape or form do they get a free pass.

There are apps now that are disguised to look like encyclopedias, or some other innocent looking app, that are used to store pics, texts, etc. I search my youngest room periodically (a true hazmat situation).

If your kids schools have a social media night I recommend people attend it.

I need to make a fortune by creating an app that allows a parent to "see" their child's phone in real-time, and to take control if necessary. Like you push the app button and your child's phone appears in a window that allows you to operate in "view only" mode or "administrator" mode. The app would run in stealth on child's phone and wouldn't be visible to them. Read their texts, call logs, view contacts, location information, delete/add apps, etc. etc.

Somebody make this happen and pay me royalties.

Fucking Hell, my old man used to do that all the time. I'd be sitting there, he'd come in "hey, what's up" and start opening my drawers, looking on my bookshelf and bins, and rummaging through all my shit.

Just type it in to Google. I've heard the have a section that does nothing but scours searches for app ideas then picks the good ones and creates them.

We tend to do she she's not around. We generally don't find anything (found a beer can once). We don't want to interrupt a potential Intel stream.

I also managed to get my thumprint into her iPhone!
