Truck Gun, what is it, really?

I just read an article from my CCW Insurance company on truck guns. The author discusses that various types of truck guns, why one may have one and some pros and cons.

Do you have a truck gun in your truck? Why did you pick that particular weapon and what have you done with it to date.

I keep a POF AR Pistol in 5.56 in my truck. I picked it because I want more range and accuracy than my CCW in the event of a active shooter. I got it out today to kill a coyote, but Wiley was too quick.

Discuss........

I have a 10 MM Glock with a spare mag in the center console and an FN SCAR Heavy 7.62 with an ACOG for active shooter events.

I don't tell many about the rifle anymore....got some weird looks the first couple folks I told....

For me a truck gun is inexpensive, yet reliable. Something I don't mind getting dinged up, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if it got stolen.

For my car, that's just a S&W M&P Shield 45, because it fits in the dash compartment. The trunk has a 300 BO AR pistol with a 3 day pack.

In my truck, it's a G20SF in 10mm, plus another 300 BO AR pistol.

Neither of the AR's are particularly notable with regard to brand, and were each less than $800.

I personally carry 10mm/300BO due to my local AO, and the likelihood of dealing with animals, and/or people wearing heavy winter clothing.

Agree with Akheloce’s first sentence.

Texas in the 60's, it was common to have a sawed-off .410, it was called a snake gun. It was also common to carry your weapon in a window rack.

That’s a nice piece. One is on my short list. Very compact. 9mm, same as C/C firearm.

I have an Aero Precision AR pistol in 5.56 under the back seat in my trunk with three mags. I've told practically no one except for two guys at work that I trust. It's in a plastic condom due to our high humidity.

For a few months I had a cheapo PSA AR9 + 3 mags, but reconsidered.

A Ruger 10-22 takedown with several magazines topped with a 2-7 scope. All in a nice nylon case that fits neatly behind the back seat of the truck.

I don't keep a gun in a vehicle unless I'm taking it someplace to use it, that's how a lot of guns get stolen. It's either on me or it's nowhere.

Since guns are bad and I lost my entire collection during a boating accident, it's only wishful thinking on my part.

Buuuuut, if I were to have one, I agree with some of the previous posters:

(1) trusty
(2) reliable
(3) easily replaceable.

At one point, I was carrying a snub .357 revolver and either a Rossi or Henry level action. And a white stetson, of course. Can't believe the prices on these recently.

Alas, nothing but wishful thinking now. Boating accident, et al...

Got a black stetson now.

I am thinking of getting a Walmart cell phone and a rape whistle to keep in my car for emergencies - guns are scary and the police will be along soon enough.

heh heh, you know what I do keep in the car, bear spray. Unlike mace this shit comes out in a massive cloud at speed of sound. It's classified as a pesticide so there is that to consider legally but, for dispersing public nuisances or non lethal situations it cannot be beaten.
