Hunter Johnson transferred to Northwestern from Clemson, I can't recall the last time NU had a QB ranked as high as him on the roster.

That seems to happen a lot with the top recruits, especially QB, when they go to programs like Clemson or Alabama and find themselves on a depth chart with other players that were rated just as high. Kind of the curse of being so good and getting recruited by top schools, because other players just as good are getting signed up too.

He'll definitely get more playing time at NU than he would have at Clemson, considering how deep Clemson was/is at the QB position.

The SEC should just break off from the rest and have their own championship so some of the other conferences could have a winner.

There wouldn't be any teams left for me to rant at.

I am now rooting for USU as well. I am also a really big fan of that staff. My son committed the other week and never looked back, he is thrilled to be playing for those guys and headed to Logan. I hope they stick around for a while.

I agree with that. We have one proven starter coming back on the defensive backfield when we were expecting 3 total. Our line backers are all very talented but no experience, our D-line will be good however, and that should make things easier for the rest. Bud Foster will probably have his most inexperienced defense he's ever had in 30 years.

QB is returning and some RB's with a little experience and our O-line should be decent. 1 proven WR that had a case of the drops at times last year.

Well, y'all can warm up and gets the kinks out at East Carolina (my other alma mater).

Wile I don't pull against VT, I certainly can't pull for them when they play Duke or ECU. Plus, I have several cousins that went there. My best and most fun away game at ECU was at VT in 1988. Drunker than hell. I always liked when VT played at ECU, because the fans were cool, and fun.

I do think once y'all get the kinks ironed out, it'll be a good team. If everyone stays and is healthy, next years will be a great team.

Ohio State will win the National Championship.

Just write it down and give it to your sportsbook.

Could be a good thing to circle the wagons around Greg Schiano.

Urban Meyer is probably going to be fired and rightly so. If he knew and did nothing he can't coach any team. But then you could assume the coaches that worked for him who are now head coaches also knew, meaning Texas head coach Tom Herman.

I know a lot of people say this, but I donít really understand it. If you remove Alabama from the mix, the SEC is no better than any other power 5 conference.

Bama is so good right now, it certainly seems that way. But the conference is cyclic and we do have a 20+ year history (going back to the start of the BCS) with 5 different SEC teams winning national championships. 3 of those teams won multiple titles with Auburn being the 4th that won one and played for another title.

In that same time frame, the Big Ten has only had OSU, the ACC has only had FSU and Clemson, and the PAC-12 only USC and couple showings by Oregon.

No other conferences has had more appearances and more wins by more different teams.

There becomes a point when the conference has to stop living in the past. It’s been 8 years since another sec team won the national championship, and their record for other bowl games isn’t always impressive.

Alabama is fielding a great team each year. You can roll the dice on what other team out of the SEC will do really well each year, and the rest of the teams fall somewhere between decent and shitty. You could describe the make up of the other power 5 conferences in a pretty similar way, with the exception of having one team that is consistently great every year.

Ahem....Michigan and Notre Dame... :)

There's been 2 years now that the conference is hovering around .500 in bowl games but, it's the only conference two have put two teams in the championship game...twice even, with one just last season.

And we are only two years removed from a record 9-2 bowl record for the SEC. I guess two years ago could be living in the past...

The conference announced an extension of its football agreement with the Fighting Irish on Thursday. Notre Dame, a member of the ACC in all sports but football, will play five ACC teams every year from 2026 through ’37.

Notre Dame gets to retain its football independence while the ACC’s television contract gets a boost from the home dates its teams have with the Irish (All Notre Dame’s home games are still on NBC).

Notre Dame also gets to participate in the ACC’s bowl tie-ins and access to its annual spotlight national game on Labor Day.

Not for football, even though 5 ACC teams are on the schedule. The fact that they play a bunch of those teams has more to do with the way ND schedules games than with belonging to the conference.

It is convenient for them, from a geographical standpoint. But the main point is their own TV deal. That is the mark of a true independent, and it pays off for ND. It makes no sense for Notre Dame to throw their hat (helmet) into the ring with the ACC or any other conference. ND can schedule whoever they want, they just happen to choose teams from the ACC, many of which joined the ACC long after the conference was formed in 1953.

Bear in mind, way back in the day, it used to be very difficult for Notre Dame to get teams to agree to play them. One of the reasons they play USC annually is because they took on the challenge, and its now a rivalry as long as any in sport, like the Bears and Packers. Nobody outside of their conference has played more games against USC than Notre Dame. Perhaps they should join the PAC 12.

I had the same thought yesterday. The entire coaching staff may be implicated in this. I would expect them to make a decision by Monday.

Looking ahead to the season doesn't provide much enthusiasm for me. Even though the Vols have a new coach, we are still light years away from Georgia and Alabama. The Vols start off with WVU and also play Florida, UGA, Bama, South Carolina and Auburn. I expect 6-6 which isn't very exciting.
