I'm not sure why someone who never served thought it was ok to try to make that joke. We can say it to each other or other services can bust our balls, but no civilan is in a position to go there.

Brothers,
Happy Birthday!
I just got back from the VFW. The recent USMC studs from the latest conflicts (who can't fit into their old uniforms any better than us) were there having their version of the Marine Corps Ball. No dress uniform, no cake, no formalities, they were just slamming it.
It was wonderful and a tribute to the Brotherhood. Carry on. Welcome home and be our future.

My wife and I went to our local VFW here yesterday as well. They had a great turnout of 200 (ish). The oldest Marine present was born in 1928 and fought at the Chosin Reservoir. The youngest Marine was born in 1998 and recently returned from his first deployment. Good time.

A little inter-service fun with the Air Force CoS and CMC.

Last night we celebrated the birthday as we do every year at a local pub. We usually get a good crowd of 200-300 Marines. We do a short ceremony that consists of watching the Marine Corps birthday message, a toast to Marines lost in battle, the cake cutting, and the singing of the Marine Corps Hymn. Last night I had the pleasure of meeting Don Graves. Don carried a flame thrower on Iwo Jima, and he wins the award for still having the biggest set of balls in the room.

If anyone wants to read about Don, HERE'S AN ARTICLE

Quote:
Not all the moments in Iwo Jima were violent, Graves likes to say that there is also humor in combat as he recounted a story involving hot chocolate.

“I was sitting there and I said ‘I feel like hot chocolate,’ so I took my G-bar out of my ration, diced it up in my helmet and I put a demolition charge under it and lit it,” he said. “I poured my canteen water in and I’m just cooking that chocolate. The thing I failed to realize was that chocolate [odor] travels.”

All of a sudden a Japanese soldier yelled out “Hey Marine very good chocolate you bring here.” Graves responded, “If you want chocolate you come get it.” The Japanese soldier countered, “Oh no, no you bring here.”

Maverick, that's bad ass!

To all the devil dogs out there, I've rarely served with more squared away troops short of SOF.

Happy Birthday, Marines, and may you crash many more beaches, drink Iceland out of booze, and continue to live on your glorious traditions!

I enjoyed the birthday message, this year. Really liked the Belleau Wood part and the recognition of SgtMaj Canley.
