Welcome!! I was embarked on the Dubuque in 86 with my infantry platoon for an Okinawa to PI round trip. I find it somewhat unsettling that every single ship I ever deployed aboard is now mothballed or an artificial reef somewhere....

My favorite ports were Hobart, Guam, Hong Kong.

I didn't particularly enjoy the SH rate. Toward the end of enlistment I considered cross rating over to CTI/Serbo Croatian but the six year reenlistment turned me off. Instead, I completed my enlistment and went to college. After 9/11, I nearly signed papers to join the officer ranks but realized I'd be a crummy officer. The program would've required that I complete the college program I signed with and, well, my eventual change of degree program would've ended my qualification. I ultimately majored in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

Now I work for the State of California as an Information Security Analyst. This is way more fun.

I used to be a member of classmates.com and connected with some old shipmates. Over time, however, I lost contact.

It's a small world though. Just the other day a colleague of mine informed me that he was on my sister ship and, upon leaving the Gulf from an extended stay, they relieved us for Operation Southern Watch in 1996.

I was on the Dubuque as part of the BLT for the 31st MEU in 1993. Perth was a good stop. Good ship and great crew.

Welcome. It is traditionally considered impolite in online forums to post the same question simultaneously in separate sub-forums. This would probably have best been posted in The Lounge.

Greetings everyone I'm happy to have been allowed to join this community.

I served in the Army from 2008 to 2012 as a 92W10P in the 188th BSB out of Fort Bragg North Carolina.

Happy to have been accepted and hope to learn from all of you here. I love to read about military related topics and seem to always exhaust my resources. So this is a gold mine to me.

Thank you all for contributing to this community make this a valuable resource for us all.

Salutations & Intro

I'm Cormac. I have a lot of experience & practice in immediate threat assessment & suppression (especially in the realm of ending interpersonal violence in a range of settings), & have extensive tactical/practical martial arts training/applications (see previous parenthesis). I enjoy practical blade-work application training as well as melee. Everyone needs a hobby, I guess. In my current career, I do a job that has a LOT in common with personal security work. The pay is not one of those qualities. It has me thinking. I should look into things more reasonable in the risk-to-pay ratio! Thoughts?

Thanks for the acceptance into the Socnet community guys. I'm a former Marine Corps armorer, I was with Vmm-265 for the 31st MEU 2011-2013 then 2nd tank BN 2013-2015. Currently I am doing contracting as an armorer and WPS contracts. I'd just like to say that even before I was a member this forum has been a wealth of knowledge and I'm glad to have access to it.

I joined SOCNET in 2005 and thought I'd posted an intro. Logged on about 2-weeks after 12-years and don't see that I posted an intro so here it is.

I enlisted and went to OSUT, Airborne then RIP in 1987. RIP class 01-88. I served in the Mortars Section, Weapons Platoon, 'Hard Rock' C Co, 1/75 from '87 to '90. I had a broken foot so did not jump into Just Cause, but was an RTO on one of the C141's and did air-land there after all the festivities. I served in the S1/PAC in HHC for a few months while my foot healed. I then went to B Co, 1-75 mortars and deployed to Desert Storm with them, and ETS'ed in '92.

I ETS'ed without a Ranger Tab (Broken foot from earlier and lost 2nd slot when went to Desert Storm with B Co), and always regretted it.

I joined the ALNG with A Co, 1st BN, 20th SFG in Decatur AL, with the intent of earning my long and short tab's, but working as a cop full time in Savannah and going to college I never made the time for SFAS.

After 9-11 I came back in as an Infantry Officer and finally fulfilled the Ranger Tab goal with class 10-03. Later I went SFAS and was selected and spent 2008-1010 going through the Q-course, but ultimately was a med-drop out of Robin Sage when my right foot gave out. So while I spent time there and learned a lot, I did not graduate and did not earn an SF tab or Green Beret.

I have deployed to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division as an Infantry officer several times, and am now a Public Affairs Officer with the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.

Basic information: Infantry, Commo, Medic; Army AD/NG/Res; Med-Ret.; OEF; Live in Indiana because my ancestors were migrating west but weer apparently lazy and I'm afraid of sharks, alligators and polar bears and we don't seem to have any that I'm aware of but I'm still keeping my eyes open...

If there's anything else I can add, let me know.
