Also, not sure if graduating from ERAU helped or not, but my Commander came in to let me know I got into OTS with a pilot slot earlier today as well.

So ERAU has helped me achieve my goals and I am happy I attended.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out in this thread.
Awesome job and a big congrats to you! What platform do you want to fly?

I'd love to fly Fighters. Knocking on wood here.

Either way, I'm just grateful they're letting me wear the uniform.

Do you get to choose what you want to fly or does someone do the choosing for you? It is interesting to note the personality differences between C130 pilots and C17 pilots. I was wondering if psychology plays into the selection of pilots and platforms.

I'm sure there are others that can answer this question better than I can, however, a lot of the pilots I work with have told me I will be ranked during UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) against everyone else in the class. The stronger performing students will likely have preference and whatever else is left or whatever the Air Force needs will be passed along accordingly. That is my impression of what I have been told. They (F-15 pilots) have also mentioned that certain personalities do work better with particular airframes over others.

Another option (if someone wanted to choose their aircraft), is to apply to a reserve unit that flies a particular airframe. I've also been told that going this route usually requires knowing someone at that unit or having some sort of tie to the location of that unit.

This is all regurgitated information from what the pilots I work with have told me.

Final update---

After 2.5 years of finding out I got selected, I finally graduated UPT and got the silver wings. There are a number of people on this forum who pointed me in the right direction and helped me get through the program. I appreciate everyone's support throughout this journey.

Hopefully this thread can help someone else with their goals in the future.

In case anyone is wondering I got picked up for EC-130s. Not too sure how transitioning from ACC to AFSOC works, but I would like to try and eventually switch to the AC-130 if the USAF will let me.

Lots of good hiking and canyoning opportunities around Tucson. Have fun.

A member of my extended family graduated from Emory Riddle several years ago and is now flying F16s in the Air Force. Good aviation school.
