Welcome Home, PFC Sappington
PFC Oscar Eugene Sappington will be returned to US soil Wednesday to be buried at home. He'd lain in a grave in Belgium for the last 70 years, one marked "Unknown." He was identified via family DNA recently.
PFC Sappington was killed in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in January, 1945, while serving with the 309th Infantry Regiment, 78th Infantry Division. Rest well, sir.

Yet another inspiring story from a country that exceeds my expectations on so many fronts.
Be proud, Aye, M.

Do not forget he was in the Ardennes American Cemetery outside Liege, Belgium. He was buried as an Unknown Soldier. This is just one other cemetery in the American Battle Monuments Commission.
