RIP CW3 Jason Thomas

CW3 Jason Thomas of 3rd SFG(A) passed this morning, shortly after midnight. Jason was surrounded by his family and approximatley 20 SF guys that filled the hallway outside of his room at UNC hospital.

Jason was a friend you could count upon, a teammate you wanted in your stack and brother that had your back and would support when needed and call a spade, a spade when required.

He served this nation well, having enlisted in the Navy and later joining the Army and eventually into SF where he served for the past 15 years. Jason had somewhere in the range of 9 deployments to OEF and the ME region.

Jason was a fighter, I can atest to that having seen him downrange and back home. This was his second bout with cancer.

Jason held on throughout the night, acknowledging the presence of his family and friends by shaking his head or making some noise. His dad and eldest son were notified yesterday afternoon and they drove up from GA. Jason hung on and was able to spend about an hour with them.

He passed surrounded by family, immediate and extended. About 20 SF guys lined the hallways outside of his ICU room. One of the nurses commented that they had never seen something like that and that there was someone by his side 24/7 over the last several weeks. It was a testament to Jason's character, brotherly love and respect people had for him.

I was blessed to have him as a teammate, he made being a TM SGT easier having him as a commo guy and later intel dude. He was agressive, smart, and reliable. I was even more fortunate to have him as a bud past our team time.

He is survived by his 3 kids, eldest currently serving in 20th SFG, an ex-wife that has been an angel being by his side for the last several months (they were making plans to re-connect), mom and dad along with a brother and his family. Jason will be missed.

RIP my friend, you served your Nation well, your watch is over.
