Reminds me of the dune buggy critter the Army was playing with in the early 90's.

Does this new thing fit in the 47's and V-22's (Osprey)?

Thanks Pete, IMHO I'd still fill those ammo cans full of sand.

What's planned is usually not what gets fielded.

There is always the fight between weight vs protection and then there is size.

Roger, reminds me of WW2 tankers catching flack from Patton for reinforcing their Shermans with logs and sand bags.

I know this is going to astound some of you youngsters, but we used to fight without EVERYTHING being armored.

I was actually going to mention that as well. Not just vehicles either. Big Army guys and the Marines looking like the Michelin Man always made me shake my head. Throat protectors, groin protectors, shoulder protectors etc. I was very glad I never had to wear all that shit and could wear whatever I wanted.

[QUOTE=wildman43;1058719325]The Army is testing a new Tactical vehicle for the SOP[QUOTE]

I read about this vehicle in a military(dot)com article this morning. The Army G8 LTG Murray was being questioned about it on Wednesday by Congressman Carbajal of the House Armed Services Committee. The Army wants to buy about 300 of these off of a USSOCOM contract at a price of $260,000 to $271,000 per vehicle. I don't know if that's the actual per vehicle cost or if it includes a support package. The intent is to field them to five Airborne Infantry Brigade Combat Teams. I thought that the Army was going to have a fair and open competition for a Ground Mobility Vehicle at some point in the near future. It doesn't seem like it would be much of a competition once they've completed fielding such a pricey platform to five Brigades.
