Someone else worth resurrecting this thread for.

Richard Todd.

It is interesting to note that this actor played Maj John Howard in the movie "The Longest Day".

They first met when both Capt. Todd and Maj. Howard were involved in Operation Tonga ... they met in the vicinity of Pegasus Bridge on D-Day + ?hrs !!!

On another note in the same vein. Someone asked if The Duke felt inadequate in the presence of a co-star who was a real hard-arse.

I also wonder if Gregory Peck also had self doubt playing characters of derring-do alongside real life Veteran Commando, Sir David Niven. I know of at least two films they worked together on.

Interesting lives some of these people led.

Cheers,

Uh Oh, Chongo!

It will now be about a week before I can get the Banana Splits theme song out of my head.

Kahana has led a pretty full life, still going strong at almost 90. I didn't realize he played a convict in Cool Hand Luke.

From the picture in the article you just posted, Southern Carr was played by Clifton James, along with James Bond fame along side Roger Moore (Sheriff J.W. Pepper).

If you look just to the left of James you'll see Kahana, I'm pretty sure that's him. Clifton James was another highly decorated Army Vet as well.

Based on the still from the movie, it looks like he's getting ready to time Luke for the egg eating bet.

Edit: I thought you meant that Clifton James was Kahana, but I see I misintrepreted.

Iíll see you Kylo Ren and raise you a Count Dooku. Formerly attached to L-Group and SOE in WW2, and his step cousin was Ian Fleming.....creator of James Bond.

On a more recent note, Jake McLaughlin has been in movies such as Savages, Valley of Elah and is currently on the TV show of Quantico. I served with Jake in 3-15 INF, and knew him thru my band mate, who were both in A Co.

I don't remember seeing his name listed in the pages, (if it already is I apologize)..

John Mahoney who is best known for his character Martin Crane on the TV sitcom Frasier served 3 years in the Army.

He passed away on Sunday Feb 04 2018.

Don't believe I saw Humphrey Bogart's name here. Served in WWI, U.S. Navy.

During WWII, he visited in North Africa where my Dad was stationed with the 97th Bomb Group, 414th Squadron. Pop got his autograph on a piece of paper. Sister has it at home in a frame.
