SpaceX Falcon 9 Heavy Launch 6 FEb

This is the big one, with three Falcon 9s strapped together for 27 engines running at launch. It's a demo launch with Musk's Tesla Roadster as the payload. They're going to try to stick 3 landings of the launch equipment today. This is a big deal, setting up a bunch of other flights if it works.

Current launch window is 2:20PM to 4PM ET.

I wish I still lived in Port Orange and could watch the launch from my house. (Or the beach, Ponce Inlet).

Good stuff. I was at Johnson last week and got to go check out the ISS MCC. They were discussing it there. The James Webb Telescope launches next year. That will also be a big deal and a game changer according to NASA.

I truly hope they are successful with their launch.

Space is one of the only true unexplored things we have which consists of things we can't even imagine.

In the broad scheme of things, I really hope we get off this rock before too long. I honestly believe there needs to be a place that humanity can go to be free by simple virtue of vast amounts of space set between us and those who wish to rule us. It fosters independence and grit. Self reliance and self-sufficiency --- ingrained into the culture of those who set out and conquer/settle the land. In return and we reap a bountiful harvest of policies in govt reflective of that mindset from representatives who are from those areas. The western expansion into the frontier in the early to mid 1800s were and was our last real frontier of any significant nature. And ever since, the world has been shrinking at an ever increasing rate, bringing with it the sardine can like Marxist socialist city-dwelling mindset that comes with it. If you examine the stark political dichotomy between rural and urban areas, it's pretty self evident.

Maybe it's why shows like "Firefly" ingrained themselves so well in the public eye and conscious. We yearn to be free, stemming from some deep and from a primordial place in our DNA, even knowing full well the austere nature of such an undertaking, and romanticize the fantasy of being able to truly be so if we so desired. The "Wild West meets Star Trek" juxtaposition of that show meets many of those hidden and unfulfilled desires.

launch time is 1505-1600. wx is good hovering around 80%, about the same % for success: I would consider it a win if it just clears the pad. - Musk.

DD, you REALLY need to stop intermixing politics into your every post.

As if there would be nobody to rule over you off-world? Right...

Last warning.

The SpaceX Falcon Heavy page has a pretty cool animation, but it did get a little Heavy Metally at the end. (You'll see).

27 engines is going to be loud. I wish I was down at the cape to see, hear and feel it lift off.

I really do hope that they are successful and a renewed effort undertaken to increase the exploration of space. Living in Edgewater and NSB I got to see many shuttle launches. I would like for my daughter to be able to experience a launch of a big ass rocket.

Maybe a SOCNET get together on Ponce Inlet or New Smyrna Beach is in order for the next launch.

This launch would be to see as the 9's aren't very impressive. Maybe for the next heavy if this one succeeds? Don't forget the three reusable rockets will be landing also!

Indeed and a harbinger for greater things (mining Martian ice for fuel to launch mankind to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn).

And I will volunteer in a heartbeat for that POL position.

Pretty freakin sweet launch and recovery.

I'd be up for a meetup for the next heavy. It will be bedlam down there when they send up the first Dragon crew but I definitely want to be there for that.
