Joseph Kernan of Florida to be Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. Mr. Kernan currently serves as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for SAP National Security Services, where his responsibilities include leveraging commercially developed SAP and other software technologies in support of missions related to national security. Additionally, Mr. Kernan serves as the chairman of NS2 Serves, a veteran training and employment program, and serves on the Board of Directors for both the National Navy Seal Museum and The Mission Continues. Previously, Mr. Kernan served in the U.S. Navy, first as a Surface Warfare Officer and then as a Naval Special Warfare/SEAL Officer. Mr. Kernan served as the Commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, the Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. Fourth Fleet, the Senior Military Assistant to former Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Deputy Commander of U.S. Southern Command. Mr. Kernan is a retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral, and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the National Defense University.

Nice. Several of Gates' former entourage are filling senior positions now. I saw Ryan McCarthy (former Regiment guy) will be Undersecretary of the Army.

I knew LCDR Kernan back when I worked for him at the unit in PI in 89 - 90. He was the XO under CAPT Foreman.

Great guy. Congratulations sir

I was there same time frame, remember going into his office to speak to him and he was sound asleep, Did Chief Casey ever make it out of PI ; )

Is he the one with the red hair or the black hair? Been a long time. If its the one Im thinking about, the Association announced that he had passed. I believe that he was still there with his wife.

Red hair I guess, helped pull him out of a fight in one of the bars many years ago, grumpy bastard but was a good guy.

Bob Harward followed Kernan and I then relieved Harward as XO. When we moved the Unit to Guam, Steve Casey stayed back on legal hold due to a land dispute with a neighbor. He later retired there. He died in 2013.

Yea now that you mention the land dispute it comes back clearly, I couldn't get the facebook page to load, sad to know he passed, he was always good to me. I believe Tom Hicks was out there same time period.

I went back and looked at Steve's notification. His anniversary is coming up this month. As soon as I went to the page I remembered a lot of good times over there.
