SOCOM's Commando Hall of Honor

We should all congratulate and thank the 4 Marines who have been inducted into the SOCOM Commando Hall of Honor. (if you haven't already)

Maj. James Capers Jr. (Inaugural Class)
Brig. Gen. Evans Carlson (Inaugural Class)
Lt. Col. George O'Dell
Col. Peter Ortiz

It was interesting to read what each of these fine men have accomplished in their careers and lives. Now we all know Marines work/have worked with the CIA SMUs and OSS, successfully completed unbelievable missions all over the world, were innovators in TTPs for SOF, etc. But this quote taken from the Hall of Honor's citation for Brig. Gen. Carlson documenting his command of 2nd Raider Bn. @ Makin Island in WWII -vshows just how important these men are and will always be.

"This successful engagement established the foundation for what is known today as Reconnaissance and Special Operations Forces."

Yes, I'm aware of that....I didn't see anything posted here in reference to him or any of the men getting inducted so I figured to give the credit where it's due...

Carlson & the 2nd Raiders influenced my life from a very young age. I suspect Red Mike Edson and Sam Griffith will be equally honored someday. Sincere congratulations to all, to their families and decendants.

Jim Capers and I had breakfast together last week at MCRD San Diego. CG MARSOC gave a brief and was kind enough to invite us. I think I can speak for both of us when I say that our success, if we had any, was due in large part to the fine people we worked with during our careers. We are both in awe of the current generation of military men and women, it makes you proud to be an American.

It makes me proud to be an American to see men provide a great service to their county and then pass the credit onto others.

Thank you

There an article about Jim Capers in the recent Maxim magazines and his Vietnam War service and a campaign to honor him for him to be the recipient of the MOH
at http://issuu.com/fgfgfgccd/docs/maxim_usa_2015-03.bak or search Capers

The initial effort to upgrade his Bronze Star to the CMH resulted in it being upgraded to a Silver Star. I am unable to open the magazine link but would think it highly unlikely that any further upgrade is going to happen.

I have no idea how I missed this thread the first time around.

Always humbling to be in this board's company.

Lt Col Terrence Moore USMC/Ret was recently inducted in the Command Hall of Fame. I never heard nor served with LtCol Moore but he sounds like quite the character from what I was able to google.
