Back in the early 1970's there was another loss of life during submerged operations. It was a U.S.Army Diver who had drown. It had taken place during an open hanger door evolution. It had happened shortly before one of my deployments.
1976 - His name was Gabriel. 7th SF Group.

Thank you for your reply CB. I brought up this topic because I was not aware that this had already been presented before. I did not want that MSG Gabriel to be forgotten here at SOCNET. It is Veterans Day today and I thought that it would be most appropriate for him to be Remembered here today at this web site. May he Rest In Peace.
Thank you for posting the link to the proper thread.
Best Regards, Edward Brakmanis

QM3 Bond had a brother, HM1 Norm Bond, who was in SEAL Team 2, mid 70's time frame. Norm stopped by SDVT-2 in '86 or '87. He was commissioned at that time and with EOD. It was good to see him, Norm, as we'd been in a ST 2 platoon that had an "arduous" deployment to Denmark in '75.

As I recall, Norm had to escort his brother's body home from Subic after the accident.

I had never heard of this, so I spent the last 20 minutes or so trying to read up on and understand it.

Am I correct in my understanding that basically the air was coming in too slowly? Or was air going out?

Could they have saved themselves by going back on their SCUBA tanks?

Hello Frank,

I happened upon your request for information regarding a Bond in UDT-11 who died in the Grayback accident. The Bond you asked about is my brother, Richard David Bond. Our brother, Mike Bond, another Navy SEAL, was on the Grayback. He was the one who tried to revive Rick. I have another brother Norman Bond who was also a Navy SEAL. I would be happy to share more information if you are still interested.

Thank you for your efforts.

Gary Bond
