Thermal Scopes

Looking at an ATN Thor HD 384 1.25x5

Anyone have any experience with these COTS thermal sights? The one I am looking at is right around $2K so, far from top of the line resolution but Youtube video shows it is good enough for me and then some. I need to shoot some shit in the back yard at night. Namely a Red Fox that has already assassinated two of my good laying hens.

Just FYI.

It's a new model, this stuff gets cheaper and better all the time. I've been looking at this stuff for a while without pulling the trigger on anything. I think it'll work fine for your intended purpose. S/F....Ken M

I don't have experience with ATN but everyone I've talked to that has shot one seems to like it.

Trijicon just bought IR Defense and from having recently shot a couple of their optics, I have to say I'm a little surprised that level of thermal imaging is available off the shelf, to the extent that there is an export restriction.

The prices are a little much at the moment but I think that will come down with the volume they're apparently selling. They're real popular for hog hunting right now down south.

I'm pretty sure you need one, and so does Dark Helmet...just in case the raccoons come back.

Good catch. Now how do I buy it without getting ripped off. Ive been seeing people paying for shit and stuff doesnt get shipped. Makes me nervous buying from an individual. Especially that much $$$.

Me too! Once I have it, then I very obviously need to have a. 300Blk to mount it on as well!

I'm down with the toys. However, there are easier ways to eliminate a fox.

What's the distance? Any ambient light or ability to use IR floods to light up the area?

thermals

I've looked @ them. I'm a hog hunter

I would be more likely to get a "snap-on" 3rd gen IR spectrum; where, I could keep my primary optic on the gun vs dedicating a gun to a thermal.

Good shooting

Less than 100 yards. Lots of ambient light but I do have an IR flood that I can put up as well.

loads of blokes this side of the pond making there own NV add ons for about 100 quid so about 150 dollars would make you something good for what you need especially as you already have an IR flood you can put out
this way you can swap to diff rifles as well

side note , the ATN x sight over hear seems to be a very much love or hate sight with people as quite a few early ones had problems i know its not a thermal but same brand
