CPT Charters was short as fuck and as our training company CO could run outrun every SF candidate...that dude was a gazelle.

On the other hand, another TAC, SFC Neptune, looked relatively out of shape compared to everyone else and could ruck faster, more easily, and with less apparent effort than anyone I ever knew.

It takes all kinds.

That was him. I didn't know he had passed...it doesn't feel like he should be that much older than I am...but then, I was an E-5 back then and that was 1984...so I guess it really was a long time ago. I also did not know his history...until now.

Am I being unrealistic in pursuing special forces as an officer?
I don't care if your short or tall, skinny or fat, if you want to be an 18A, be first through the door and last in the chow line. You will be the moral compass for 11 of the most capable felons the US can field. You will love every minute of it, it will be too short and you will spend the last 11- 15 years of your career paying the price for the privilege.

I would have lived my life no other way.

Yes. The farther away you get from a team, the more the suck. Nothing beats the team time.

One of my classmates was maybe an inch taller than me, 5'7 or 5'8. Ranger, SF, Delta. Total badass and one of the most focused, determined people I've ever met.

Worked with two outstanding short officers in SF: Captains Kirkbride and Charters. When I was a Team Sergeant in 5th Group, they used call our team the "Smurf Detachment". I had five Soldiers under 5'6" tall, plus a couple of Clydesdales. Looking back, my team could have been stand-ins for the "Fellowship of the Ring".

It can be done, but you need some thick skin and learn how to work smarter.

Log PT is great for them! Guys like me at 6'3" get crushed by all the weight while they are on their tippy toes, figertips gently brushing the bottom of the log.

Do you realize how hard it is for them to reach for the log only to tickle its belly? The sqiushed up face is due to the strain on their tiptoes.

Off the point. So the only branch with a height requirement is Army Aviation?
