Interesting to see in the late 1970s they had ROTC only classes?[/QUOTE]

They did, indeed. In about 1974, as an ROTC instructor, instead of going to Bragg Advanced Camp for the summer, I went to Benning as a Ranger Class cadet evaluator, Each ROTC Ranger platoon had one of us ROTC Assistant Professors (Captains) attached as a cadet evaluator. We were not RIs or Tac officers, but were tasked to prepare an overall written evaluation on each cadet in our platoon. This was primarily focused on the cadets who did not tab, to determine if they would continue in ROTC.

No RS grad would ever forget, or not immediately say, their class #. Big red flag. And I don't know about '94 - but in the 80's, the NBC NCO was like a rarely practiced extra duty in the Arms Room - our guy was Roerig.

He did say Robert Rogers was a pretty good Commander.

Actually, when i arrived in 1/75 in NOV 77, Gary Carpenter was my 1SG, Julius Gates(later SMA) was Charlie Company 1SG, Ivan Ivanov was HHC, 1SG I think Autrail Cobb was A co, and CSM(later SMA) Glenn Morrell was my CSM.

Close on the CO- his name was Roberts...

Oh yeah- pot gut, pot belly, but I'll be kind and stick with the color

Oh yeah, again, Ranger 1 was our mule...

Yea, you were my Pre-Ranger instructor too. Thanks for making us leap frog up that damn hill across from LAAF.

People look at me in the strangest way when I tell them about doing that or about double timing up Cardiac backwards.

The resulting 'looking like Jerry's Kids'comment gets me some hateful looks...

I used to make the RIP class do that and about 50 meters from the top make them turn around and sprint to the top, damn did that hurt but fun.

Not only do I remember my class I remember my Roster Number.

Only things I remember about Ranger school are the blueberry pancakes, Pogey birds, and freezing my ass off.

That's borderline troop abuse and a damn good way to blow a hamstring.

Truth...no fond memories of those days (or the Hatchet Squad on morning runs, for those who may have encountered their special brand of extra motivation).

by '94 it was an MTOE position by MOS in the companies at least. can't say I remember what was at Bn.

my Company NCO had a tab and he was a weirdo. and motivated me while I was in school and feeling down about it. "if that dude can get a tab, so can I"...

I have two memories of RIP, Porter and Schott. Not fond of either.

Just kidding, in all honesty I kind of liked RIP. It was the 4 weeks that we were held over between BAC and when we had enough to fill a RIP class that I didn't enjoy.

I had those two as well as Lamb making us do millions of flutter kicks.

And this skinny ass, birth control glass wearing, supply guy -Fleek. I can't remember if he was tabbed, but he weighed like 100 lbs soaking wet and was quite the ass, I would have loved to have choked him out.

If he's a member here, I stand by my statement.

Class 7-84, roster number 80.

Worst Ranger School memory: Bayonet assault course, worst smoking of my life.

Best Ranger School memory: Biting the Ranger Instructors before we took our seats in the classroom.

Both names bring back lots of memories. Porter later got commissioned, and went to DS/DS as a Lieutenant with the dollar.

I remember showing up at RHQ. As a JAG - I was totally out of assignment sequence to replace the RSJA who had cancer.

Zero dark thirty in the RIP area with a single firelight on, I get there and walk in. Lots of noise and thumping. RIP student up against a wall locker, held by his neck getting his face beat. I clear my throat, Schott doesn't look and says, "what the f... you want?" I say "What you want, Sir?" Schott lowers the RIPie to the floor, turns to me, braces and says, "What do you want, Sir?". I tell Chris I am here for the 12 mile road march. He says, I am taking care of an issue, can I have a moment while the Captain remains outside? I say, carry on and walk out. He hoists the RIPie as I depart, and 10 minutes later he comes outside.

Virtually every toe nail came off my feet that morning, and the medics took care of dozens of blisters.

IIRC, Schott went on to the Golden Knights.
