.22 conversion kit for an AR-15? [AKA Helmet's Raccoon Saga]

I have a raccoon problem in my house. Little buggers are infesting my attic.

I thought I took care of the issue a month ago when I waited outside in the dark on garbage night and popped one off my roof with a 12 guage with 00 buckshot. It....alarmed the neighbors and I blew off a section of my gutters, but I throat-shot the bastard with two pellets and he landed on my deck. I let him die slowly.

I have another one, and need to go into Ninja mode outside again to get him.

I have a buddy that says I should get a 22 conversion kit for my AR to resolve the situation. He said that's what he does, and he cannot recall where he got the kit. It's supposedly a drop-in bolt.

Anyone have one? If so, where did you get it?

Any advice?

I just ordered one from Spikes tactical. CMMG makes one as well. I haven't gotten it yet so I can't comment on the quality yet.

I have a Ciener conversion kit for mine. It works like a champ.

You can even use those 20 gr .22s with primer only just fine but they won't cycle the bolt - just have to run it manually.

My friend as a Ceiner as well and he uses the Black Dog mags and they work great in it: http://www.44mag.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BDMAG

The Colt/Umarex ones are by all accounts crap. I have heard nothing but good about the Ciener ones. Of course he has been in the business a long time.

Not to hijack DH's thread - but has anyone played with running a conversion in any of the piston guns?

And the good thing about the .22 subcal device on an AR is that you're ALREADY subsonic..... simple attachments and you can shoot all day long if you wanted, with the neighbors being none the wiser until your stray round plinks out someone's windshield...

Ceiner...
Spikes..
Cmmg...

look no further....

marksarmory.com has CMMG conversions in stock and cheaper than most, if not all.

C02 pellet pistol will work those little creatures over at an even cheaper price.

have fun.

Nevermind on the pellet gun...its a racoon(duh) and a .22 would serve you very well. Aguila has some pretty nasty .22 ammo

Right... .22 (ammo) would serve him very well, As in food for the .22 conversion kit to go in the black gun already in his mitts....

This is what I use on my AR when I shoot it as a 22.

For a raccoon problem, and your neighbors don’t like gun shots, I have used rat poison and tuna fish sandwiches for a week straight feeding them and I have never seen them since.

My grandfather used to put a can of sardines mixed with rat poison on all four sides of his watermelon patch. the little bastards LOVE watermelon but love sardines better.

they climbed the 2" X 2" pole he nailed the can on top of (can't make it too easy or they get suspicious (according to him) and grab a chunk then take it to a handy container of water (provided by him ) and proceed to eat.

he told me that he used to find anywhere from 2 to 5 a week dead at the base of the pole.

He then skinned them and sold the pelts to a company that made fly fishing lures...

CMMG makes one. At all costs I would avoid Ceiner. The kits work but the company is reviled as being one of the worst in the gun business. Just do a check with the Better Business Bureau in Florida.

This morning at 7 AM my son startled the little bastard on his way up the tree to get on the house and he was "treed" because he ran up the wrong trunk. I grabbed the AR with the sub-cal device installed and went outside and found the wife yelling at me "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? You're outside with a MACHINE GUN! The NEIGHBORS! What's WRONG with you?"

To quell her, I made sure the raccoon wasn't going anywhere and went back in the house, removed the screen from the kitchen window, then laid down on my back on the kitchen floor where I had a clean shot of maybe 50 feet.

Picked him off, he fell and gave two pretty loud screams before dying.

Very cool kill.

I have a close friend who uses .22s in M4s for certain training events. I've shot the guns and I have to say I love them. A lot. They are soooooooooooooooo fucking cool.

At the same, I've heard the bad stories about the Ceiner dude. I think it is a shame, since I had "heard" he was the first out with one of these kits -- no? What version did you finally end up buying?

This is interesting on two levels:

1. There was adult supervision.

2. Obviously the the Family Platoon Sergeant wants OPSEC maintained during kill-or-capture operations.
