1Sgt. Ivan Alston (two merged threads)

Just got pinged by one the young team leaders who worked for me.

Said Ivan Alston died in his sleep and was looking for additional details.

Yeah, yeah.. he said, she said, third party info. If anyone has any please let me know.

He was my 1sg at HardRock prior to my PCS. Ivan was a good man, Good Ranger did a great job running HardRock after Ricketts got in trouble.

Way too many stories to tell, but we once Jump mastered a jump together coming back from Rudder onto the Rock. I'm pretty sure 12 hours later after drinking at the Gator lounge until the sun came up, we would have failed a breathalyzer upon arrival to Savannah.

Rest in Peace, First Sergeant. The name Alston sounds familiar from my time frame.....but it has been awhile!

1Sgt. Ivan Alston

1st Sgt. Ivan Alston passed away on June 29, 2020. If any one who knew him is interested in his memorial, open the link below. We served in 2nd Bat and went to Ranger school together. He was a good friend and will be missed. He's now with the BIG RANGER IN THE SKY! HOOHA Brother! Till we meet again, RLTW!

It sucked balls. Your true class number was 502? Explain? Several years ahead of me, I donít recall classes being numbered that way.

Anyone jump in and answer that...

Yah, back in the day when things were harder 1978-79, 2nd battalion Co C 2nd platoon, we broke ground for others to come. Had a lot of hard charging Rangers. We sang songs that would probably make you blush. I'm kidding a little with you, so don't take too much offense. But Sgt Alston and I, along with some other guys from 2nd Batt were in class 502-79. Hence the year "79" there's a photo of the class with some of the baddest ass Rangers you will ever find. I'm what you might call an Old school Ranger. Came out and did 14 years in Law Enforcement kicking in doors, SWAT and all that good stuff. But this isn't about me. I was just mentioning my Ranger brother, he was the Bad Ass! He was 1st Sgt 1/75 and Ranger instructor in Mountain phase. If you had met him you wouldn't have forgotten him.

I stood at Parade Rest and gave way to 1SG Alston many times. May have knew him in the Mtns? Just never heard that class numbering system?
