Brown water Navy, part of the Mobile Riverine Force. Joint Army Navy operation on the Mekong River. 9ID 3rd Brigade, we ran many operations with the Navy guys, often they acted more Army than Navy, they spent so much time with us.
The Navy boat sailors would melt their barrels down for us Army guys, we were always in some heavy contact !

Thank you for your service with the 9ID! If I know Paul he is probably wearing sunglasses in the video because he is self-conscious. He lost one of his eyes from an AK round fighting along side the soldiers of the 9ID, SEAL elements and members of an Army SF outpost near Tra Cu in 1969. All the Best, 9533 |

I have no problem with it. We awarded BMC Williams with the only Boat Pin we had at the time. If the SWCC pin was out then, we would have awarded that instead. This picture taken at the SBU-20 Building dedication in 1999:

Elliott had everything going for him. A Boat Guy and a Boatswains Mate. 😊 I just am seeing the humor in guns wearing what is rapidly becoming the old school pin. Based on the message traffic I didn't explain this very well.

He earned it the boat guy way too. Killing the enemy by driving over them with his boat.

Am always fascinated by the stories from the 'Nam era boat guys. Particularly after my short stint on PBR's. Those were some hardcore dudes!

Quick thought; Frog; shouldn't we (no I wasn't there but was still in the community) have awarded Boats a Gold pin? He was a Patrol Officer during the fight for which he was awarded the MoH. We used the silver pins for Boat Captains and the gold ones for Patrol Officer back when. I know he's gone but I just now had that thought.
