"New Posts" Option

Greets,

I typically use the "New Posts" option here, to see whatever
current discussions/info shows up.

I've never got more than a dozen 'new posts' showing, never
more than one page, and usually less than ten--even if I don't
check in for a couple of days.

I've hunted down a few threads I posted in and found there
were, in fact, new posts--but the threads weren't listed in the
"New Posts" roster. Seems like some new posts, don't get in
the New Posts list...?

I've checked in User CP and found no user settings that seemed
to limit returns on "New Posts".

Anyone have any ideas?

I first visit http://www.socnet.com/usercp.php which, if your subscription settings are right, will show you every thread you've posted in that's been updated since your last visit. Then I visit http://www.socnet.com/search.php?do=getnew. I've also run into the thing you're seeing, with certain forums not appearing in that list, even though they show new posts.

I suspect this will be fixed when the admin team gets the upgrade finished, but they had to back it out the last time they tried it. See http://www.socnet.com/showthread.php?t=132864

When you log in, “New Posts” will show you new posts since the last time you logged in.

You can subscribe to a thread by using the thread tool when you are in that thread. Upper right next to Search this “thread”.

Yup...the "new posts" is just a handy way to see whatever's
cookin', without checking every individual sub-forum.

I stumbled on it a few years ago, and use it now on every
forum that has it. Good stuff.

On the subscriptions, I do have it set for "Daily Notification".

The only problem I've found is that it has a time limit of some sort (10 minutes maybe), so if I log into the site, then select "New Posts", then my wife wants to start a conversation for 15 minutes, all of the posts now show as old.

The 'new post' function is tied to your browser cookie for SOCNET, and are set on a timer. If someone clears the cookies, or you otherwise get distracted (see Gray above ), they won't show as new.
