This is local to me. I think this will end up being worse than the Guyger deal in Dallas.

I think he panicked and had a ND.

Sad deal...

My deal is they didn't even announce their presence. The body cam is awful.

"Objective Reasonableness" defense will obviously come into play. Regardless of it's legal outcome, that shit looks BAD and is fucked up on more than one level. I don't know if the video was just cut short and it wasn't captured on film, but I didn't hear him announce himself.

YT comments are off the chain, as per usual.

This is almost identical to the SC incident. At least Ft. Worth immediately released the camera footage.

Can one of you on-the-job guys explain why, when a non-emergency / health and welfare call happens at night - you don't park prominently out front and hit the lights... and then ring the bell? And in this case, since the door was open, yell inside that you're the police making sure they're ok?

Quote:
"At the Sunday news conference, a reporter asked O'Neil if Jefferson was holding that handgun when the officer shot. O'Neil declined to answer".
Why all the released pictures of the gun then?

Those Blue Lights are one hell of a good far recognition signal. Oh, and American Homeowners also own firearms.

I can only speak for my area but depending on the neighborhood an open door could indicate a burglary in progress. We tend to park farther away so we can capture the perpetrator. Also we don't want to be in the kill zone in the unlikely but possible event of an ambush.

And all well-trained officers around here will announce our presence loudly and several times before making entry into any residence. I want people to know who I am.

Absolutely, for a couple of reasons. Self-preservation being one of them.

I'm LE and have been for about 20 years. I support the TBL and all, but what happened in Dallas and this incident are both straight up WRONG.

With this shooting, what gets me the most is that they NEVER announced their presence. Maybe it doesn't register to some, but the body cam footage clearly shows the front door open and lights on in the house. Why wouldn't you go ahead and knock, ring the doorbell and yell "POLICE Department"? If a burglar was inside and fled out the backdoor, who gives a fuck.

I personally feel the shooting was a ND. The kid panicked.

This lady didn't deserve to die.
