Sailor accused of stealing 20 concussion grenades

A Gunner's Mate 2nd Class (equivalent of an E-5?) from Waukegan apparently took the grenades from the USS Pinckney.

Can't see any scenario where this guy doesn't wind up serving time in the brig for this. I wonder if he didn't just conclude as he was driving himself to Great Lakes that stealing the grenades was stupid and just chucked them out of his car at a remote spot.

Probably would never have linked him to it if he hadn't been stupid enough to store them in his own backpack with his name and rank written on the inside.

Nah, they'd have still found him...lot numbers...but he saved them a lot of time by helpfully putting out a big "I DID THIS" sign on his front lawn.
