Finally Retraining

After about a year of trying and a lot of head ache I am finally eligible to retrain. For the longest time I was stuck between CCT and TACP but I have finally decided to submit for TACP. My question for all of the TACPs roaming around out there is what do you dislike about your job? I can google reasons to be a TACP all day and watch JDAMs crush evil doers on youtube and get pumped up, but I want to hear the stuff no one tells you. I don't think anything will change mind but I want my final decision to be as informed as possible. Thanks!

Jay,

Did 20 yrs as a TACP, so not too much I didn't like except not doing the job towards the end. Only downside (if you consider it one) is you won't be able to go SOF out of the gate (like CCT) and will initially go to a conventional TACP unit. You'll need the experience to help you grow, so it't not a bad thing.

Watch out for douchebags that don't want to excel, especially the NCOs. Hard to believe I know, but they do exist and primarily populate the conventional units. Stay motivated and get to the SOF side if you so desire. Great mission and everyone want's to be there. It's where the job is and will be for the immediate future.

The best thing about this job is you can excel or stagnate as much as you desire. You can be a operator with Tier 1 elements or you can stay a tread head leg with the 1st Cav, it's all on you.

Congrats and good luck. It's a damn fine careerfield. MS has it right, you have to watch out for the career crushing shit bird NCO's that don't want you to excel. There's a lot of that around.

Did 23 years in the AF as a conventional TACP, 10 of those years as an Instructor at the 3 Level, 7 Level and JFCC Courses after going crippled.

MS is spot on about being able to go where ever you are willing to EARN your slot - But there are plenty of DB's out there that will do everything in their power to keep you "Conventional" rather than letting you move on to the Big Show.

Didn't you escape from "the Hood" back in the day when escape was impossible MS? I bet there's a good story behind that...

(Looking at the dates, this is all OBE, but I'd be curious to know how Gollywompas fared in Training).
