Jeff Bray passed

From Greg Pittman:
Brothers and friends. It's with the heaviest of hearts that I write this post.

Today, October 24 2016, Jeff Bray, CCA LM#1177 one of my dearest friends and lifelong teammates, crossed the river to Valhalla.

Jeff had been in poor health for several months and was transported by ambulance to the hospital last night and was taken off life support this morning.

There will be a private service for family members later this week. Jeff will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. I'll update this as I get more information.

Please keep his mother, brother, and sister in your thoughts and prayers.

Jeff was on the initial assault element during Restore Hope. His Silver Star citation acknowledged the lives he saved. Jeff was my team mate many years ago. RIP

Lest we forget .................

U.S. Air Force

BRAY, JEFFREY
Synopsis:
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Jeffrey Bray, Staff Sergeant, U.S. Air Force, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force in Mogadishu, Somalia, from 3 October 1993 to 4 October 1993. On these dates, Staff Sergeant Bray, a 24th Special Tactics Squadron Combat Controller, was attached to a joint service search and rescue security team tasked to respond to the crash of a United States UH-60 helicopter. While serving with a U.S. Army Ranger element trapped and surrounded inside a building in the city, Staff Sergeant Bray coordinated helicopter gunship fire on targets all around his position throughout the night. He developed tactics and techniques on the spot that allowed him to mark friendly forces' locations so that helicopter gunships could destroy close enemy concentrations. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Staff Sergeant Bray has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Actually I never had the honor of knowing Jeff but thought that there would be some here that did.

I am the captain of my soul.

This is an update on Jeff for any interested; sorry I couldn't get into my email till today.

USAF - Combat Control Association

From Greg Pittman:

I just got back from meeting with Jeff's wife and her family in Whiteville, NC. There won't be a local funeral service, but visitation for friends will be as follows.

When: Saturday, 29 Oct, from 1800-2000 hrs
Where: Peacock Funeral Home 104 S Madison St Whiteville, NC 28472

If you can make it down there, it would mean the world to his family. They're wonderful people who loved him very much.

According to the funeral director, it could be up to 4 months before the actual service at Arlington. I'll pass those dates as soon as they become available.

I know I didn't post a lot of information initially and I'm sure there are many questions in regards to the cause of Jeff's death. Official cause of death was cardiac arrest. PTSD was listed as an underlying factor.

On a final note. If you're hurting, struggling with demons, or just feel lost, please reach out. If you can't bring yourself to reach out and someone else tries to reach in, for the love of God and everything that's holy, take their hand.
