posers

Was told last week by the president of the USMC Scout/Sniper association that an active duty SgtMaj and a CWO were both recently busted (Received NJP) for claiming to have Scout/Sniper qualifications when they did not. Anybody have more information on this? I plan to follow up with him for more info as well.

I haven't heard this, but during hunting season I run into at least three snipers per week going hunting. I guess having a Night Force scope and wearing either your ghillie suit or multi-cams makes you one these days.

Well until I see someone produce their sheep skin(Diploma)I don't believe them. There are guys Marines I have known for over 25 years who claim it but when it comes to showing their creds they always have an excuse.

How stupid can you be to do it on active duty?

I just don't get it. Being sniper qual'd doesn't carry any weight, career wise. I'm not as familiar with the Marines, but Army wise it has no bearing.

I see a good number of dudes who never dropped the hammer on a live target beating their chests about being snipers on the net and in person. Real or not, it isn't much of a cred if your main claim to fame is putting holes in paper targets IMO.

Truth.

The point I was making is that claiming sniper quals has no bearing on career advancement.

In the Army infantry, a Ranger tab is something that one must have (mostly, there are exceptions) to get to a certain level.

Claiming to be sniper qual'd would be pointless. I just don't see why a SgtMaj and a CWO would do that.

Anyone who beats their chest about being a Scout/Sniper wasn't brought up the same way I was, in a STA plt.

Yea no shit. I bought some poultry off a younger man last summer. He asked if I served active duty and I said yea. He then began to give me this bullshit about being a sniper, being shot in the head and getting released from active duty. I'm thinking; just let me buy the fucking chickens and go already.

These fucking people are all over the place. What can you do? You can't shoot em.

How do they think they can bullshit an active duty retiree with over 21yrs of service?

By the way... I AM NOT SNIPER QUALIFIED for the record. But an old 1SG has been to the range a time or two to watch his guys shoot.

I usually ask them to explain to me what a MOA is and then it quickly gets real quiet and all you can hear is crickets and the sound of sucking wind.

The best one I had was a guy going to run a shooting course up here and said he was a USMC S/S I wrote him and asked him which unit he was with and when he told me via e mail I asked him to tell me which guy he was in the picture I sent him of the unit for that time period. I told him I was the second guy from the left in the front. Crickets class was cancelled

It's not quite as sexy/common as posing as a SEAL or Ranger, but it still happens. You just don't expect that from the people you started the thread about. Weird.

We had a Ssgt come to our unit claiming former Army SF, sniper, and a bunch of other stuff. Once command looked deeper they found out he had made it all up. I can't remember if it was a company or battalion formation but we was called up front and confessed that everything was bullshit. He was gone shortly afterwards never to be seen around 29 Palms again.
