First death in Japan, Kanagawa Prefecture. 80 year old woman, no connection to China that was discussed. Her son is a taxi driver but denies interacting with any foreign passengers.

In Bahrain and just received the first notice from the State Department saying we are okay as nothing has been reported here, yet.
Of course there are no Chinese here in Bahrain, not at all.
But, if you show signs of flu, you will be staying for a while...

James Woods put up a video on Twitter showing dudes dressed in lab coats racking rounds into weapons. This after ole Xi made it clear that he doesn’t care if this shit spreads, because he said to reduce restriction and other measures to combat this, because it is starting to affect the economy.

Xi says... what a guy...

Chinese President Xi Jinping warned top officials last week that efforts to contain the new coronavirus had gone too far, threatening the country’s economy, sources told Reuters, days before Beijing rolled out measures to soften the blow. (snip)

After reviewing reports on the outbreak from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and other economic departments, Xi told local officials during a Feb 3 meeting of the Politburo’s Standing Committee that some of the actions taken to contain the virus are harming the economy, said two people familiar with the meeting, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter.

He urged them to refrain from “more restrictive measures”, the two people said.

Translated: Don’t worry about spreading this plague across the globe, the Communist Party needs the economy to be robust, so keep the factories open, along with the subways and busses needed to get workers to their jobs

Since we are the primary people affected by this and cannot seemingly contain it without potentially devastating consequences to my iron grip on the party, the economy, and the people, we should "allow" other countries, including the US, and western Europe, to also be hit by this. Then we will even the economic tables and we won't be the only major power in freefall.

Just in case you don't know, NTD TV is a Falun Gong based organization out of NYC - not exactly thrilled with Chinese leadership, if you know anything about that whole ordeal.

That's the problem with the "reporting" on this - it's either govt. sources saying "What illness"?... or almost the rest of the planet saying "China bad, they're going to kill us all". Understandable, since it's the most censored country on the planet, after Iran and NK probably - but nobody really knows WTF is going on, and the anti-China bias is flowing like crazy.

We're coming up on almost 2 months since the first reported case.... and....???? This is Ebola: Part Deux. Meanwhile, as usual, everyday, normal shit is killing more people than 9/11 - every week.

The purveyors of disaster porn on Zero Hedge are about to pass out from how excited they are over the potential for a global pandemic. Those guys are amazing with the zest in which they salivate over potential doom and gloom. It is really pathological.

Sacramento has its first known case of this bug. Of course it is in the building I work in.

Meh, still not worried. Washing my hands, not letting anyone use my desktop items and avoiding all coughers.

Agreed. I can't handle their stuff.

It's, IMO, some of the worst out there because the "Tyler Durden" persona is a good writer, who knows how to stoke emotion, without quite getting to the tinfoil hat level. That lends it some level of misplaced comfort/credibility. When I read between the lines, it's the analysis they draw, which always supports their fatalist positions, that's scary.

For the sake of conversation, would you take the same "meh" approach if the person were diagnosed with Ebola?

No. Ebola is actually something that could wipe our nations. Apples and oranges IMO.

No of course not. Ebola has a massive mortality rate across all populations and age groups.

If I seem to come across with a “devil may care” stance that is not how I feel. For me I just feel safe with the usual precautions people should take during the usual cold and flu season.

Well, FML, two cases in Oman. The infected are Iranian and the Oman aviation authority (PACA) has suspended all flights originating from Iran.

And guess who has travel to Muscat? I say again, FML.

Iran concerns me greatly. Thankfully, Armenia closed its border with Iran but Azerbaijan did not and there are people constantly going back and forth between these two countries.

And then of course, there are thousands of Azeri gastarbeiters and merchants who travel for work and commerce to Russia/Belarus/Ukraine... so there is a potential for the virus to spill into Russia and then Europe from Iran through the Caucasus region as well.
