Hey guys, I'm 17 at the moment turning 18 in 3 months i graduate 5 months after i turn 18. Should i enlist with a 18x contract or ranger school right out of high school or should i go to college first. And is the 18x contract worth enlisting into?

Besides the fact that you don't meet the requirement for 18X anyway.......do you understand that you are talking about two very different units with two very different missions? Do you know what those differences are? Do you really know what you want to do? Or do you just want to be special anything?

How about you do some homework and explain to me the differences between the two. And to ask if 18X "is worth enlisting into" comes across as sort of insulting across the board. All MOS's are worth enlisting into.

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul.

Uh...not that I want to contradict you or anything...but I'm pretty sure MOS 91S is totally not worth enlisting into

Join the Coast Guard instead. Seriously. Become an Helicopter crew member or door gunner. Do 20 years with the CG and retire with a pension. Or get out after 4 years, go to college 100% PAID for - majoring in a STEM discipline, find a good woman to marry, settle down.

Too much BS in the Army. Not worth dying in Afghanistan for a bunch of ass raping cave dwellers. My $0.02.

You can enlist and go to Ranger School without an 18x contract. Are you confusing Ranger School with Ranger Assessment and Selection? They are two EXTREMELY different things. There really isn't a war anymore, and Rangers and SF will continue having fun while us grunts go to the range and practice our "area beautification" skills until the next fight. Listen to these guys they have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share, IF, you do your own research, ask intelligent questions, and stay in your lane. Best of luck to you in whatever choice you make.

Take a hint from a non-18X guy. Go away with just a few scratches. You cannot out-do these guys.

Now where did I put my hair gel and Oakleys?
