Academy closed

Well they closed our SP Academy. Recruit tested positive for Corona virus. All instructors and recruits sent home for two weeks minimum under self quarantine. Guess it was just a matter of time till it hit over there. First time in our history training stopped because of medical reasons. Hopefully not a lot will get sick. Only saving grace might be that self defense and boxing hadn’t started otherwise there’d be spit and blood flying all over the place. About 75 of our retired guys, me included, put ourselves on list to volunteer at road stations and HQ to answer phones and help out admin wise if more patrol guys are needed for the road. Crazy times......

As of right now fire and police academies in Massachusetts are still open but I assume they'll close when an outbreak occurs and the finger pointing will start.

My academy is connected to a college. They put all college classes online except for the police academy.

The director tried super hard to get the FDLE and CJSTC to keep us open because my class was supposed to graduate in 3 weeks. The academy class that started March 9 lasted a week before they were told their class was suspended.

We lasted until end of class Tuesday. Before class that day we were told we has Wednesday and Thursday off and we'd be back on Friday. 9 hours later, at the end of the class day we were told that class was suspended until further notice.

Not sure what is going to happen now. We were in the middle of our DUI chapter, and all we had left was the rest of that, the wet lab(supposed to be today), the traffic crash investigations chapter, 5 PT blocks, and scenario weekend, then we were done.

Edit: All police academies in the state are in the same boat, afaik.

Stay in shape, donít slack off. If you have study material, do that.

LOL. We had a Commander who would tell new recruits "I don't want to know anything about you, I might have to fire you."

Working on it.

Sucks because the gym and pool are both closed.

I did make sure to bring textbooks home this time.

The coordinator at the academy sent an email the other day asking for help testing a webcam thing, so I'm hopeful we will be allowed to start doing the book shit via webcam or something. Maybe the FDLE signed the waiver the academy was trying to get.

Update: Got our waiver signed, so we started online classes last week via Zoom.

Have taken the chapter 11 and 12 tests(our last 2 before the school final) and are now doing review for the final and the State exam.

Not sure when we're going to be able to do the stuff we have to do in person; I think they're going to try for the week of May 11.

We only have 12 hours of PT and proving we can do the field sobriety exercises, as far as I know. (and some people have to do some driving)

Exam centers are open in Florida, so as soon as we get our proof that we've graduated we can go take our state test.
