Do you use Zoom and have it installed on your computer?

You should understand the risks before using it.

Don't use it.

I use freeconference.com. Traditional teleconferencing with just phone dial in. There are options for video teleconference and screen sharing but honestly, I don't want to see the ugly mugs of most of the people I work with.

Several very visible organizations I know are transitioning off Zoom to Microsoft Teams because of this.

The Zoom app is both my company provided iThings, phone and pad. I will send to company IT and see if they have an opinion.

Thanks for the heads up.

My University is using Zoom exclusively for remote classes now since shouting down all face to face classes. Anybody who is a student is caught up in it and really has no choice, if they want to continue with classes.

You have a way to protect yourself.

I'll let the expert explain how.

Zoom is one of the common programs that schools are using at least in the Bay Area.

I used it once during some stock market training, (I had no other choice), then deleted any record I could find of it.

I don't understand why people insist on using a program simply because it's "new".

Is Zoom like Webex?

FBI Releases Guidance on Defending Against VTC Hijacking and Zoom-bombing

Original release date: April 2, 2020
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released an article on defending against video-teleconferencing (VTC) hijacking (referred to as “Zoom-bombing” when attacks are to the Zoom VTC platform). Many organizations and individuals are increasingly dependent on VTC platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, to stay connected during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The FBI has released this guidance in response to an increase in reports of VTC hijacking.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency encourages users and administrators to review the FBI article as well as the following steps to improve VTC cybersecurity

In my IT division, we use MS Teams and GoToMeeting. Our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is not on board with my agency using it. Also, we are discouraging our vendors from using it as well. Literally, I just received an email from our our State CISO promulgating new security guidelines as a result of the whole Zoom-bombing incident. Zoom has been compromised and ainít worth the risk. YMMV

Got an email today that DoD is rolling out Microsoft Teams.

It was a little comical. They haven't worked out all the kinks to installing it on a STIG'd laptop so they recommend "The best experience will be achieved from a non-DoD computer".

Well, OK.

I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the DoD warning banner. No, I do not consent to monitoring...

Translated "We're going to lock down our computers so hard you won't be able to do any work on them".

Bah, NMCI mastered that move 15 years ago.

We use Teams...

We're still working the kinks out.. but we had transitioned from skype to teams a couple of months before the whole COVID19 thing started.. so we're ahead of the game compared to most I think..

I have been in several Zoom meetings as well over the past few weeks... an executive networking/coaching group I belong to uses Zoom.. and one of the companies we partner with fairly regularly uses Zoom..
