Magpul mags have an internal nipple on the inside front of the mag that divides the tips of the loaded cartridges. This can interfere with FMJ or ballistic tipped 458 ammo that are single stacked.

Metal GI mags are GTG.

Do you have a link direct to the offering? I can't find it on their site.

ETA: Not on their site: http://www.primaryarms.com/radical-4...-barrel-bundle

I know....

But at least my addiction doesn't have me hanging out at the nudie bar, or in some grimy alley getting dope at all hours, or getting sketchy loans to play the ponies.

My addiction is beneficial to the US economy, damnit.

Could you just Dremel tool out the nipple? Should be a pretty easy fix, sounds like.

I thought the issue was with the half-moon cutout on the mag's leading edge. Having committed to getting a .458 together, I'm looking at mags: about 50/50 Magpul/GI in my stash, so either way I'll be GTG.

LOL absolutely, but you recover so nicely... !

Guess I'm glad I didn't get any actual assembled parts from these guys... We'll see how it goes.

Got the barrel and BCG the other day, and like one of the comments from a thread on another site pointed out, the two hex key bolts holding the gas key in place were staked very weakly; their staking punch was very weak. While the bolts were torqued nicely, for safety's sake I made sure they were well staked.

Other than that, everything looks GTG. The barrel is very nicely done, as is the bolt. Not alot of choices for gas blocks and muzzle breaks for one of these, but they're out there. Hope to have it put together by Feb.

Done. Cerecoated dark gray, a nice subtle contrast with the black bits. Can't wait to fire it, but that's going to have to wait a few days.

Will be keeping an eye out for recoil - induced issues... I've got an M16A1 stock that I can put on it if needed.

Yeah, that short barrel, even with the muzzle break. It might punch the shoulder a wee bit. It'll definitely be an ear breaker if you forget the plugs.

Well, I discovered tonight after loading the one I bought, that Hexmag isn't a good rigid magazine... The sidewalls are either too thin, or the polymer they use is too "soft" for lack of a better term. The upward pressure of the 458 rounds, even with several taken out, causes the magazine lips to spread enough that just seating the mag into the well is difficult. Because of this, even when seated, the mag lips could be a hair wide, allowing the top round to be a smidgen high, and thusly can present themselves to the advancing bolt face a little bit too high; there could be some feeding problems. We'll see what happens.

Pmags have a low ridge of plastic inside the mag on the leading edge (bullet end) that divides and guides a 5.56 double stack of rounds, but which hits the single stacking nose of the big rounds. I'll check out GI mags later... time to get in bed.
