Low Power Variable Optics

I've been looking at getting an LVPO for my AR15 rifle.
I currently run a Trijicon ACOG 3x which I like for its lightweight and durability but my vision isn't what it used to be.

Some interesting optics in this category:

The Trijicon VCOG is now available in 1-6x and 1-8x with the 1-8x having been selected for widespread use by the USMC.

The Vortex Razor HD is available in 1-6x and 1-10x

The Luepold Mark 6 1-6x is lightweight and looks good.

The Nightforce ATACR 1-8x was selected by SOCOM and is quite expensive at $2800

What do you all think about this type of optic and do you have any personal experience with them?

I have LPVO on a couple of my big bores and on a couple of ARs.

For me it’s hard to beat the value of the Vortex Strike Eagle. Clear glass, tough, fairly low cost, and an outstanding warranty.

There are some good deals out there on Nikon LPVO’s right now since they recently decided to get out of the rifle optic business..

Heard outstanding things about Swampfox.. but never have personally looked through one..

Swamp fox and vortex are both on expert voice.

Swampfox Arrowhead is your best bang for buck - it punches above it's weight according to probably "The" optics guru 'Dark Lord of Optics' on YT.

You can go 1-6, 1-8 or 1-10. They have an LEO/Mil/Vet program, and are also on Expert Voice, as KW mentioned.

I've used the Vortex strike eagle and the Primary Arms 1-6 with ACSS reticle. Both seem quite good. One issue is here in Montana the selection in our local stores is sparse so you can't really evaluate them in person.

Leupold - Made in America. Enough said.

And if you are a Veteran, their VIP program offers the best veteran’s discount of any manufacturer I have seen.

I've got a Leupold Mark 8 1-8 with a M-TMR reticle and a mount I'd sell for $2k.

Used Leupolds on my hunting rifles four years and never have let me down. Have several different ones that have stood up to the abuse of tromping through the woods.

Recently got a Leupold Carbine Optic red dot for one of my AR rifles. - best Red Dot I have had. Far exceeds the aim points and Eotechs have had in the past.

Bought an Arrowhead by Swamp Fix last year - good quality and clear, but pretty heavy. Personally I will not buy products made in China anymore though.

I didnt know this existed until I read your post... THANKS!

That program is outstanding...

I shoot a variety of leupold, zeiss, and vortex depending on the rifle, requirement, and budget at the time I am needing/wanting an optic..

With leupold offering a 40% off MSRP program for vets.. im going to guess zeiss and vortex are going to be seeing a lot less of my money in the future..

FWIW I went to the Leupold website and "registered" in less than 5 minutes.... (just have to provide a DD214)..

2 hours later I was approved..

Looks like a great program

I put a vortex strike Eagle 1-6 on my 18” 5.56 and I like it but the eye box is super small. Sometimes I have a hard time getting settled in so I can see on 6x. 1x is super clear with a good eye box though!

Are there any differences between the choices with regards to using these various options while wearing glasses.

Does the BAC method for using an ACOG as a red dot close in work with any of these options?

They all have adjustable diopters, so you *may* be ok - but I don't wear glasses so have no idea about shooting with corrected vision.

All LVPO's at 1x act like an RDS, just not *quite* as forgiving with head placement - but with a good eye-box and some training, almost a non-issue. A lot of peeps throw an actual RMR or Holsun 407c on a 45 degree mount to transition to if something pops up close when you are at high magnification.

Second focal plane optics need to be at max mag if they have a BDC reticle, for it to work as intended. First focal plane doesn't. Not sure about SFP with a Mil reticle.

The Strelok app is a godsend for any optic owner.

Swamp Fox Optics Coupon Code for 25% Off - WLSISLIFE

They stack up against Vortex all day, as a matter of fact, I got rid of my ACOG for the Tomahawk LVPO 1-8X24 with the cross MOA reticle.
