I might actually have to start watching NASCAR now.. Our National Anthem came on the radio this morning while driving my daughter to school. Watching her quietly sing every word, over in the passenger seat, damn near brought tears to my eyes. There's still hope.

"I might actually have to start watching NASCAR now"

The anthem is about the most exciting thing in a Nascar race these days. Single file, follow the leader and the crash into each other for the last three laps.

Yeah...after all the driver's of my generation either retired, or got killed I kinda lost interest for this very reason.

If you have ever been in the stands with 159,999 other rednecks, near the fence able to feel the heat from the exhaust and your shirt covered with particles of tire rubber at race end...you would love it. It's a hoot.

Concur...and if you go to Bristol, Martinsville or Richmond, wear the best noise reducing muffs you can find--the sound is incredible. But if you hit someplace like Charlotte or Talladega...it'll be quiet when the cars are going through the backstretch/or dog leg, but when those fuckers round the turn and start down the track towards you....it's insane at the sound and speed those fuckers go by. TV doesn't really do it justice, and when they do wreck...pretty brutal hearing the tires and crunch of metal. Haven't been to one since the mid-90's.

Edit to note: The parking lot tailgaters can put on some righteous solid chow (beer is always, and readily available).

MK/1RS

Been to Daytona a few times (used to skip class at ERAU and go watch offseason testing) and Martinsville once (loved that place, got dizzy standing in the infield at turn 1 watching them rip by). I started watching Nascar back in 86 and still tune into the races but as soon as they go single file I bail, but I have started watching more NHRA. As stated by MK, all the drivers that I really liked are dead or retired.

I was mowing the grass at my lake house Tuesday. I was on my riding mower, so there was a lot of noise and two Ospreys came over at about 100 feet and scared the dogshit out of me since I didn't hear them coming.
