God bless your Mother and you and your family, BulletAim. My prayers are with you and your loved ones. I know people who were to be paralyzed for the rest of their lives but regained control over the affected parts of their bodies, sometimes totally unexpectedly even though doctors were sure they won't get better. So even if the worst happens, there is still hope IMO. Mothers are indestructible, by the way
Again, all the best to you!

Well, I don't know anything about this kind of thing, however, the surgery went well. She has very bad disks in her neck. From what I understand, she has 4, 5 and 7 herniated. I could be wrong but I can hardly follow it all as of right now as it popped out nowhere to my attention. But they had to remove 3 disks and put in titanium plates and 8 screws. But what we didn't know is that, thankfully, they had a way that they didn't predict to but could repair the disks directly above the ones that they thought that they had to go into. The disks were so messed up that she had swelling going into the spinal cord that was blocking the spinal fluid. They took out some of the disks that were higher to put the plates in, which took the pressure off and reduced the swelling. The plates will keep the disks from rubbing together again, basically replacing the cartilage or whatever tissue was once there. So she'll be drugged up for a while but she's unlikely to have any problems with movement.

Crappy hospital internet, couldn't go back to the previous page like I was trying to, but @shadow, they say that strength can often times outrun medicine in the racing fight of hard times like this. So to your post, always. and thank you for your concern guys.

That's great news! We will keep hoping and praying for the best outcome and recovery!

Thank you all for the kind words.... It meant a lot to me and it will to him.

Reading that I64 was shut down in St Louis last night and knowing I'm driving thru there tomorrow night on my way to North Dakota. Might have to break out the atlas and take an alternate route.

Where in STL?

64W to 55N to 270W to 64/70W.

They converge before Wentzille. Stay on 70W after that...

All is well and she's able to walk. Now it's just a matter of a lengthy recovery at home.

Just finished setting up my post-surgical sleeping rig with what seems like 10 yards of velcro... and then realizing I forgot to turn the light off.
