Seeing as it's an Irish guy, a few pints probably sharpens CM up. This fight is going the way of the old WWF wresting but it's going to make a shit load of money.

All of the UFC has been going this way for some time...this just puts a different twist on the usual recipe.

An even better match would take place in the Irish countryside. It would start with McGregor, accompanied by a lovely redhead who looks a lot like a young Maureen O'Hara, symbolically throwing his purse money into into the boiler fire of a steam tractor in the field, and then ducking and countering with a punch to the midsection when Mayweather throws a haymaker at McGregor, causing Mayweather to lose his balance and fall to the ground. The hot little redhead then declares she is going home and will have the grub ready for them when they're finished.

They would then continue the fight through the outlying areas and into the town, stopping for a mid fight break at a pub. McGregor will attempt to pay for the pint of Guinness, Mayweather will keep refusing and eventually throw the Guinness into McGregor's face, after which the fight continues. The bookies of course will be taking bets throughout, changing the odds with every punch and counterpunch.

It's been done before, pretty sure it ends in a draw.

Best movie ever.
After Kung Fu Panda, of course.

Right.

In a broader sense, the thing about combat sports is that there is always a disconnect. I tell my grandson to remember that the operative word is sport. "Combat" in that phrase is really just an adjective modifying the noun. There are lessons to be learned and tools to be developed, but its still sport and its played under a set of limitations no different than saying you can't run to homeplate from second base.

Even saying "anything goes" still assumes a rule. Something I haven't seen in real life -- one against one.

Like a lot of overhyped events these days, the ending is sure to disappoint.

Kind of like that Michael Phelps vs the Great White Shark race.
