Feel the same damn way.

Civilian models, from what I understand, are sub-par in quality and function. I speak from research, not experience. But that little IBM never failed to perform. Except when it needed to swim.

How deep is that lake & how long has the rifle been there? I haven't been diving in quite awhile, but your rifle sounds about what I'm looking for. Finders keepers!

Bringing back to the top, they just sent out mailers for limited run on Service ($685) and Field ($625) grade. One only per purchaser.

I have seen a lot of M1 Carbines for sale at some large gun shows as of late. (Last 3-6 months) Dealer price ranges varied from $900 for junk to $1200 for a damn nice Winchester but still way to much. You will fare better by finding an individual with one for sale more than likely. Don't buy anything that looks like one that has "Universal" as the maker. You will be sorry !!! CMP has a pretty good deal going. Inland MFG. has a pretty good M1 product going on now. They also have a SBR 10" barrel. The "Advisors" carbine. I've got mine, the Paratrooper model. Just saying....

Fondled one of these at SHOT. Pretty sweet.

I probably need to clarify that the Paratrooper I have is an Inland, regular size M1.....Not the SBR model. Dang it ! I just put the picture up for all to see. A friend that went to SHOT told me about the SBR.

I owned one back on high school. IIRC, it was like $200. I dug it at the time, but didn't know shit about guns.

Would not want one now. I seems kinda pointless, like when they chambered M-4s for 9mm.

There is a model made by Inland called the Advisor Pistol. I'll try to get a link tomorrow.

Went diving and got the IBM out today. Took it to the range today. At 50 yards, it shot about 6 inches low, no matter where I raised the rear sight. It's the model 2 (IIRC) rear sight. I do recall reading, a long time ago, that either the buffer plate could be going bad, or a wrong length front sight. Anyone ever had a problem with M-1 carbines like this?

The history on that is they were pushing the guns out so quickly that they upgraded the rear sight, slapped on a new front sight, but figured the soldiers would zero them in the field. Take a file and cut the top of the front sight, slowly with frequent checking, to zero the gun at 100 yds. Then the rest of the ramp should be close... But I'd take a few shots at all the ranges just to have an idea how it is progressing..

If they shoot high, then you need a different rear sight, or a new front sight. As much bad press as is out there for the gun, I don't believe it. I think most people suck at shooting, or have a flawed mental model of what is supposed to happen.

110gn at 1990fps for 967 ft/lbs? Those are solid numbers, although bullet shape helps it to bleed speed and energy. In a soft point, that'll be fun. Especially with a light, as a HD gun. There are plenty of known shooters, mil/le that have good things to say about it.

Although I did read once, that there was a powder used that did not produce expected velocities in extreme cold wx.. Like Korea.. So, there's that.

So did you ever buy one? I'm thinking about selling mine General Motors barrel stamp 1943. Actually you stood next to it several times when it was in my wall locker, just saying.
