re: boots.

Find the biggest motorcycle dealership that sells gear that you can. And then go try on boots. Take your motorcycle with you so you can sit on it and move your feet to operate the controls wearing the boots.

Iron Pony Motorsports in Columbus, OH is where I went. It was 3 hours each way but worth it.

Traditional leather "Harley" boots with the buckle and heel and square toe look cool (I wore a pair so long that not only had the heel worn down all the way, they had holes in the soles I patched with duct tape) but they may not fit well on your foot pegs and controls. Nothing worse than your heel getting hung up when you need to make an emergency shift or brake.

Some of the good waterproof boots are nice, but they'll make your feet sweat and stink unless, you know, you're actively riding in the rain. Getting caught in the wet is one thing. No biggie. But would you want to wear your snivel gear when it's 90 degrees out? No? So why wear boots designed to be waterproof if most of your riding is in the clear and dry?

Will you just ride in them and just need to walk in them to grab a sandwich or a beer? Or will you ride in them and then go walking through some old antique laden picturesque village for 4 hours?

So figure out what kind of riding you want to do, and when, and that dictates what kind of boot (or, gasp! boots!) you need, and then take your bike to a nice big shop and try them on.

Then don't be a dick and buy them online. I'm a big proponent of buying some shit online like seals and crap I know the sizes I need, but if I'm going to go to a shop and use up a salesperson's time it's a huge dick move to then note the brand and size and go order online. Don't be a huge dick.

When you go to replace them, if you are buying the same size and brand boots, then it's fine to go replace them online...

A few have mentioned they avoid riding at night when possible because cause of the limited visibility. Particularly in warm weather when the sun goes down and the summer nights dew starts to fall... it makes the roads slippery. Something you may never even consider an issue driving a car. I’ve responded to two motorcycle crashes where no precipitation was falling yet the causes of the crashs were slick roads and rider inexperience.

That must have been the Abu Ghraib market on Route Cardinals? (Sorry for OT).

I screwed up.

After looking at TFG pics and him going on and on about it on the phone, I test road a red denim 2018 Heritage this morning. I think I may be making a trade in and buying this.

Yep. That’s a screw up.

Hopefully they’re not as bad as the selfies he sent me trying to get me to leave my wife.

You may have the story just a bit backwards.

Are we all too old for me to dare you to do it?

Then Fat Guy can double-dog dare you.
Cuz you'll have to do it then.

I took a break from work yesterday and went out for a bit. The theme this ride was hazard avoidance. Large gobs of grass on the road from landscapers, dead squirrel and some really odd striations that squiggled back and forth in the pavement, probably from a farm implement. It definitely shook the bike a bit. I did a lot better in my turns. I think I was looking too far past the curve. I tried looking closer in front of me and all the S curves went smoothly. I also need to learn to do a U turn in the width of the road. Probably a church parking lot skill. I saw a good utoob on it a week or so ago. New Harley leather jacket, now for some good gloves and boots. Silverbullet kept sending me pictures of a guy in chaps, I thought he wanted me to buy them. When I got to my computer, the pix were of him and, well, let's say he had other intentions.

Dainese is having a sale on their Cooper range of boots, they're normally $199 but selling at $139 at the stores (Dainese)
