Find Local Events/Races

Approved by Ranger5280

This thread is designed to provide links on local races and athletic events of all types that people may be interested in. Triathlons, marathons, adventure races, distance swims, family fitness events, etc.

Many members of this forum may have wanted to do these type of events but don't know when, where, or how much they cost. This should help to solve that problem.

Please feel free to add similar websites with pertinent information, but make sure they're safe for work and DO NOT post links that route through navyseals.com, military.com or any less reputable sites.

Please list site and brief synopsis. Thanks.

http://camppendletonraces.com/ Including "World Famous Mud Run" and "Horno Ridge run"

http://www.triathlon-calendar.com/ More than just triathlons. Also swim events, runs, and adventure races. Listed BY STATE.

http://www.active.com/ THE premier place to find events.

http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/race...-0-0-0,00.html 5K through ultra marathons.

http://firstgiving.com/ Create a personalized web page to help raise money for the charity of your choice.

....More to follow. Please feel free to add anything useful.

For Triathlons:
http://ironman.com/
It has the full and 70.3 series races. It also has pretty good write ups of the events and a good training section.

http://www.xterraplanet.com/
This has the triathlons and off road running events plus all the other stuff that goes along with the xterra series.

http://www.escapefromalcatraztriathlon.com/site3.aspx
Supposed to be one of the more fun/challenging races out there.

Here is the one I have ran in the past and the half I'm training for in November.

http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/

PS If you get a chance run the Las Vegas, people were passing out beer on the course and getting married at the half way point.

Warrior Games

Got an e-mail about this recently. Major props to whoever thought this one up, damned good idea IMHO. Please inform anyone you know who is eligible and interested. I only have the link to the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment site, if anyone has links for the other services' websites and applications please post them.

Hey if you are interested in a strange challenge, in Hocking County Ohio, (thats in the south east of the state) around Sept or Oct they havean Indian Run. Look it up. I think the run is about 30 miles cross country. I haven't done it yet, but it sure sounds sweet.

Thumbs up Memorial Day "Murph"

I just found out about this event (It's being sponsored by CrossFit Works of Tuscon, AZ, and Albany CrossFit of Albany, NY, but it's occurring Nationwide on Memorial Day). Many of you experienced CrossFit folks are fully aware of the "Murph", which consists of a 1 mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another 1 mile run to top it all off. This year for Memorial Day (2011), there is an organized fundraiser called "Memorial Day Murph". This event was organized via a USAF PJ who was a member of the rescue/recovery mission for Operation REDWING's June 28th, 2005 tragedy: http://memorialdaymurph.homestead.com/Letter-3.html

You can sign-up for the event and go about it as part of a local, participating CrossFit gym, or you can even do it independently as a self-organized team, or individual. The day is set as 30 MAY 2011, but the timing is according to your own schedule and abilities. The registration is located here: http://memorialdaymurph.homestead.co...and-Rabdo.html

Here is a database list of local CrossFit gyms: http://www.crossfit.com/cf-affiliates/

Regarding "Memorial Day Murph", the funds generated from this event will go towards the Wounded Warrior Project, the Lone Survivor Foundation, and the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Fund: http://memorialdaymurph.homestead.com/index.html

Participants are also encouraged to wear a 20lb. weighted vest, or body armor, during this event if possible.

Not only does this seem like a good challenge, but it's also for a truly worthy cause. Even if I can't find a group for this, I'll still do it on my own (Substituting with a weighted ruck, since I don't have a vest or body armor). Hopefully it all works out and plenty of folks turnout across this Nation in support!
