University Hosting Guest Speaker

Our University police department is hosting a guest speaker. Retired Colonel Dave Grossman. Probably have 400 cops in attendance. I have heard of him. Went to his web site, interesting fella. Anyone ever attended one of his presentations?

He is not at all well-regarded. YMMV. Eyes open.

I wonder if one of his patents is "Killology". A web search shows that term is only associated with him. How cool.

Winter is here again oh Lord,
Haven't been home in a year or more
I hope she holds on a little longer
Sent a letter on a long summer day
Made of silver, not of clay
I've been runnin' down this dusty road

I've been trying to make it home
Got to make it before too long
I can't take this very much longer
I'm stranded in the sleet and rain
Don't think I'm ever gonna make it home again.

Meh, I’ve been to his speaking engagements. Everyone else raved about how amazing he was supposed to be. Some stuff he said was okay I guess, other stuff went over the edge of dumb. I could do without it personally, it wasn’t amazing.

You should ask him how he feels about throwing e-tools.

Ask him to tell you about his best felony arrest.

Or ask him about that time he was in Combat....

Or how much time he served in the Ranger Regiment...

Or the time he killed someone....

Oh wait...

Interesting comments. My guy that had to assist getting his dog and pony setup commented he was a bit different. I did not have a chance to get on his web site. This evening I will take a look at it, and see what has been posted on Socnet. Our Asst. Chief told me gets anywhere from 6K to 10K per speaking engagement.

It's not nearly that expensive on YouTube.

See if you can get Paul Howe or Danny McKnight instead. Much better use of your money.

Paul Howe would be a great choice. There's also Dakota Meyer.

Or half the BTDT's on this board who could give a fantastic speech on just about any topic that would a. be interesting and b. add value to a room full of LEOs.

Is the presentation limited to the police department, or is he coming in as the guest of a criminal justice program (or something similar) on the academic side of the house?

Your guy should learn about the internet. Pretty cool invention, you can type in Grossman's name, and learn all about him. You can see all kinds of interesting things about someone like Grossman. You could figure out that 99.999% of the world says one thing about him, and there are a couple of discredited phonies that say other things about him. Or, I suppose you could just take Grossman's promotional materials at face value, and give him taxpayer money to tell you what you want to hear. Whatever works for you.

It appeared to be mostly LE. I did see some counselors and health care folks.

Not sure where you are going with this. Trust me my guy is confident with the internet. All his job was to make sure Grossman's technology was able to work in our venue.

I thought your guy was the one who selected Grossman as a speaker...so...whatever person in the organization selected Grossman, same advice on the internet. It boggles the mind that anyone would give credence to anything Grossman says or writes, let alone pay Grossman for anything.

I wonder why he doesn't have "Combat Infantryman's Badge" listed in his bio as one of his military awards.
Surely a guy that markets himself as an expert in this particular field has a CIB. Obviously he retired before he had a chance to lead troops in combat in Iraq/Afghanistan but he would have certainly seen some combat prior to that since Americas premier combat units went to Grenada and panama. I wonder where he gained his combat experience?
Grenada?
Panama?

...or is he just an expert at marketing and self-promotion?

I am super-fucking jealous of this guy. He puts money in the fucking bank being an expert at killology and I can't even seem to translate my combat experience into enough money to pay my car-note.
