.38 Special

I'm having a rough time with this. Anyone know of any semi-autos that can shoot a .38 special? I'm almost certain that there's at least a few out there that do. I know that they're primarily used for revolvers but I have a ton of .38 specials locked up and I want to use them. I hate revolvers but I do know someone that has one that I can waste the ammo with for target practice. But if I can use a semi-auto, I would prefer to. Otherwise, I'll just use my buddy' revolver to dump the ammo.

Sure, there are autoloaders chambered in .38 Special, but they are rare and very expensive, nor do they function all that well. There's the S&W 52, the Coonan with a .38 kit, some very rare Colt 1911 Gold Cups.

Expensive gun to shoot cheap ammo?

If it were me I might seek out a S&W 36. I just like the looks of it.

gavin, isn't an autoloader basically the mag clip for a revolver as far as reloading? Empty the wheel and pop in the autoloader to reload it quicker than putting them in one at a time?
And EM, that does look nice. I might end up looking into that one. I have the money to use something decent, however, I could probably rent one from the local gun shop. I believe I've seen one there. Thanks!

An autoloader is a semi-automatic pistol.

They're called speedloaders...

As other have suggested...get a wheel gun or sell/give away the ammo...

Almost all of the semi autos are setup to shoot 38 wad cutter loads exclusively. Just sell the ammo or get a revolver. S/F...Ken M

.357 Desert Eagle?
I'm sure if you posted in the PX a member might buy the ammo.

Sell the .38 ammo or trade it for 9mm.

like gavin said, the S&W 52 shoots .38 special but it is a target pistol.

That target rear sight looks like an 1800's torture device.

Trading for 9mm seems like a better fit for me. And by target pistol I'm assuming that you're referring to a gun that's more for target practice than anything else?

Shoot it UP! In a snubby, if possible. LOL!

Nothing feels quite as nice as 500-1000rds through a snubby with tiny factory grips, in a single day or weekend.

Or give (trade?) it to your revolver buddy for his next class or competition.

Also consider that there are lever action carbines that will shoot 38 Spl. Get your cowboy on, burn up the ammo and sell it. Or not.

This is a first rate idea. It'll be like a large 22LR. S/F....Ken M

I have a Rossi in .38/357. It should be marked .357 only. The shorter cartridge does not load well. YMMV.

Not sure..... maybe I need to try short stroking it. It seems when I open the action all the way, as in to load a .357 shell, the shorter .38 gets cattywampus and pops up in the air.

Far be it from me to mention, but perhaps commentary about "short stroking it" should be avoided, lest someone more coarse make disparaging remarks about the stroker. S/F....Ken M

I have the Rossi .357/.38 lever gun. Absolutely love it with either. It's quiet with .38s!
