In order to pay homage to Eddie Jackson's two 75+ yard defensive returns for TDs in today's game against the Panthers (an NFL first), I thought I might give Alabama a break for producing such a fine defensive back.

But upon further review, I discovered that in fact young Eddie always dreamed of playing for the Hurricanes when he was growing up, and it turns out that Alabama was one of his safety schools.

So no breaks for Alabama, they're going down at some point before the end of the season, hopefully by a decisive margin.

Schedule is made up 2 years in advance. Nick approved that one. Yes its soft, but last year they played a lot of rated teams.
This year they have had there share of injuries, also.
No matter how good you are, gotta stay healthy to stay in the game. Clemson, Florida injuries the list goes on.

That's how the Bears were able to pickup Eddie Jackson in the 4th round, teams got scared off because of his broken leg last year. He was originally projected as a 1st round pick before that.

Doesn't appear to have had much of an effect on his playing ability. Reminds everybody in Chicago of a fan favorite from 20 years ago, Mike Brown. He was another safety known for making big plays.

Latest schedule for College Football Bowl Schedule,

The 2017-18 college football bowl schedule features 40 games between FBS teams, which culminates with the College Football Playoff championship game on Jan. 8 in Atlanta. This year's semifinals will be played on Jan. 1 for the first time since 2014 at the Rose and Sugar bowls.

Sporting News is ready for Week 9, just one week away from the first College Football Playoff rankings. Our playoff picture hasn't changed, and we still have Alabama, Penn State, Clemson and TCU in the four-team playoff. A host of one-loss teams, namely, Ohio State and Notre Dame, are right in the middle of that conversation.

We have the Crimson Tide and Tigers in the Sugar Bowl, and the Nittany Lions and Horned Frogs in the Rose Bowl Game.

Hard to believe FSU will go to a bowl as bad as we are playing… We’ll see.

Over half the teams in the FBS will play in a bowl. Being bowl eligible is no longer some great achievement unfortunately.

It is truly a shame that they both can't lose. Oh well.

Perhaps Iowa State can play the role of giant killer again today by taking down the Horned Frogs. My remote will get a pretty good workout this afternoon, toggling back and forth between the two games.

I can recall when there were about 10 or so bowl games, and most of them were played over a two day period of new years eve and new years day. Now I don't even bother watching but a handful.

Still, I miss the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl. That had a nice ring to it.

Can there be a tie in college football? I always thought they kept playing until somebody prevailed, unless something has changed over the last couple of years. I recall plenty of ties growing up, before they started going to OT. I think the pros have always ended in a tie after going scoreless for the extra quarter.

Even so, a tie would not suffice. It would have to be a big "L" for both teams, which would probably require some major tear in the fabric of the universe.

Embarrassing. WVU doesn't deserve the Oscar Myer Weiner or Glad Trash Bag bowl.

Draws are for futbol.

Below is a cut and paste from sbnation:

“What are the overtime rules?

If a game is tied after four quarters, the teams will play extra periods until the game finds a victor. Each period consists of one possession for each team, the order of which is decided by a pre-overtime coin toss. After each period, the order of possession flips.

Each drive starts at the defense's 25-yard line.

If the teams remain tied at the end of a period, they play another. Starting in the third period, teams can no longer kick extra points and must go for two after touchdowns.”

I was wondering if Georgias success was in part due to their easy schedule so far, but I just turned the game on and well, I think that question has been answered. Glad to see TCU is losing. Hope that keeps up.
