Below are the DFAS and TRICARE links for information on the enrollment if it helps anyone.

DFAS: https://www.dfas.mil/RetiredMilitary...elect-Retired/

TRICARE: https://tricare.mil/Plans/Enroll/Select/EnrollmentFees

If this is all going to be done by way of each retired TRICARE beneficiary reading a couple of letters, understanding the requirement and making a phone call, it's going to be a big mess with lots of rejected insurance claims starting in January.

My thoughts exactly.

FWIW: I called that number on 17 Sep and got the same recording. I was pissed because I am in Medicare (see my previous post, supra). I got the same recording, but I stayed on line and then did not follow the prompts. Finally got thru to a human who was happy to answer my concerns. She said also she was able to enroll my wife and to start the allotment from my retired pay.

If you can get thru the prompts, you can get it done before the open enrollment period. I suspect things will get very congested.

I just called (800-444-5445) and got them to set up an allotment from my retiree pay. Really quick and painless. $25/month for family.

Hit 65 next month and still working.

"Free health care for life" sure is going to be expensive by November.

I am pretty sure you will have to go on Medicare and use Tricare as your secondary coverage.

Oh, yeah.

TriCare becomes TriCare for Life and you have to pick up Medicare Part B at $144 a month.

Since I'm still working I have to send them a check - they like 3 months worth at a time - until I start on SS. Then they'll deduct it from my SS check monthly.

Got through the phone tree and spoke with a person who set everything up. Note to all who have done so already, It's just a request at this point.

The rep I spoke with said the system hasn't been fully set up yet and everything is just a request until the enrollment period actually opens up.

Rep said it's Key to look for is the conformation email to confirm the request went through and takes about two weeks after they set up the $12.50 allotment. The rep said that it can be denied for minor things such as a block not checked or something simple they might not have set up correctly as it is all new to them as well. Pay should come out as of Jan 1st for me.

Since my wife is on "Tricare for life" and Medicare from a disability, nothing changes for her and no fee comes out of my retired pay.

Bravo Zulu to those who have forged the path and passed on info to get ahead of the avalanche of calls and frustrating times starting Nov 9th/Jan1st.

I was medically retired years ago at age 23. I have a lot more pain in store for me over the coming decades as you guys all die off and I'm still considered in your grouping

What's the shortest route to determining who proposed this bill and who voted for it? I'm finding plenty of information on the changes, but I'm struggling with finding the actual legislation.

I called and it took about 5 minutes or so between dialing the main number, listening to the prompts and being on hold. Spent another minute or so talking to the guy and setting everything up. Pretty painless so far.

He did say to verify that the money was being taken out of my retirement pay just to be sure.

Thanks TFG. I'll dig in that area and see what I can find. I don't know why, but this one is really getting under my skin and I want to see who's baby it actually is.

I found the "short synopsis" of the bill, which was 44 pages and the voting history on it. It passed 83-13, but it was buried in thousands of pages of shit. No wonder they don't know what they're passing up there. It just gave me a headache.

This was put in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017.

https://www.congress.gov/114/plaws/p...114publ328.pdf
Sec. 701. TRICARE Select and other TRICARE reform
