The team leader would yell out--yell out--"Oscar mike" every time we moved. It was as military as one could get without saying the oath.

On the other, it was a laid-back atmosphere, M4s, dark-blue BDU-type utilities. Very different vibe. Take off the blouse and the tactical gear, you didn't look too dissimilar from most of the other cops.

That second group, the outcomes were the same, the public perception I think better, and was pro-public. The first borderlined on anti-cop because they even fostered a "better than you" attitude in the department. The public hated it when they were called out.
Listen to Chip Huth (Kansas City SWAT Commander) speak. I think you'll like what you see/hear.

Howdy, can you post a link to the article? I would like to see what he has to say.

Winter is here again oh Lord,
Haven't been home in a year or more
I hope she holds on a little longer
Sent a letter on a long summer day
Made of silver, not of clay
I've been runnin' down this dusty road

I've been trying to make it home
Got to make it before too long
I can't take this very much longer
I'm stranded in the sleet and rain
Don't think I'm ever gonna make it home again.

Yep...one's eyes are drawn straight to it, but hey, no one is perfect....

I like ours. It's the size of a service pin that reads, SWAT...plain and to the point.

Our SWAT patch is the same as our department patch, only subdued.

Almost funny this thread pops up today, I almost revived it myself.

Was out to buy some new running shoes last weekend and saw some off-duty cop wearing some kind of commemorative SWAT shirt.
I almost had a stroke, as it depicted my insignia of my beloved Regiment on the back.

It's so infuriating. Many, many men have bled and suffered to make it what it means today. And then some SWAT guys copy it off the internet, well knowing what they are doing.
Give some college kid $100 and they'll come up with a design for you. But how dare they spit on the heritage of a prestigious military unit.

Sorry. Had to rant, better here than in public.
