Looming Tower

Hulu series in Feb. From the synopsis online, appears to focus on the goat-rope that was CIA/FBI cooperation leading up to 2001.

Always leery of these kinds of things, but curious to see how it stacks up against James Bamford's and Ali Soufan's info.

I thought this was going to be about the book, The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright. Pretty dry read, but an extremely informative look at how Al-Qaeda came to exist. Some of the things in the book will blow your mind.

Sounds like this TV Series is based off this book, at least in part. The book won the author a Pulitzer for Non-Fiction. If the TV series is even half as good, it'll be a home run.

Yup, I just grabbed this part:

...how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11. The series follows members of the I-49 Squad in New York and Alec Station in Washington, D.C., the counter-terrorism divisions of the FBI and CIA, respectively...
Didn't read that, but Bamford covered it in 'Pretext for War', and Soufan and O'Neil spearheaded the Cole investigation, which Ali has talked and written about.

Real squared away dude.

I secured him as a guest speaker for my AFRICOM AT/FP Conference a few years ago and he went over very well.

I've got his first and current books autographed from him.

Binge-watched all 9 episodes this weekend. Aside from a bit of obvious "Hollywooding", I thought it was a very well-done series.

8/10...

Ep.9 was very good, and little sad since we all know what is coming up.

I'm so glad the FBI agent chick at Alec Station finally let her hair down! That loopy-thingy on top of her head was fucking scary!

I want to know who the actual Alec Station chick is, in real life. That has never been released AFAIK, only that she was still employed.

Supposedly it's Alfreda Frances Bikowsky who married Michael Scheuer (her boss) in 2014.

The Washington Post came up with that a while back but not sure if its been 100%.

I'm having a hard time with the show. Maybe it's because I'm watching it on Hulu and it keeps being stopped by commercials. The guy who portrays Ali Sufan's getting on my nerves with his cutesy ways.

I'm into Ep 3. So far this has been great, the real clips of 1998 etc. bring back nostalgia. Back when hardly anybody knew about AQ or who UBL was. I did as a teenager, made me want to join.

Very good series. It definitely showed the goat rope, as someone else said, between the FBI/CIA. The history of these two agency's has lost allot of credibility over the years..
That bitch that worked in Alec station should have been put down. Insensitive condescending bitch.. Attitude. Obviously didnt give a frick about US citizens, just her sorry ass and Schmidt.

Finished the series. Echo to what has been said above about the CIA not sharing intel, and the "higher ups" not taking the threat seriously which basically got a lot of people killed.

The massive overhaul of our security measures in the U.S. to include monitering all our telephone and online traffic tells me they are still as inept as they were, they just have more tools at their disposal at a loss of our privacy.
