It’s Official: Kevin Barry’s Closing

I just got the word from a Ranger buddy that the last day for Kevin Barry’s will be 31 Dec 2019. It is going to be turned into a hotel apparently. No more barracks, no more KB’s, and not much of a reason to go back to Savannah.

There have been noises of this for the past few years.

Sad.

I wonder what they are going to do with all the priceless memorial stuff on the walls?

It’s going to 160th and Battalion.

I just got a text from Savannah that told me a guy named Mike Bartlett is trying to get a lot of the stuff for his bar, which has been catering to 1/75 for years.

the stuff is going to to the gold star families first, then to Bn/160th. and all the memorabilia is planned for and sorted is what I've read.

Vic's 40 yr lease is coming up, new building owner honored it, but sold it to another who doesn't care about renewing it. and Vic is old.

it's hard to imagine there won't be a KB's anymore.

I’m glad the memorabilia is being distributed honorably. I was visiting friends in Vidalia and drove over for a day. This was 7 years ago. I didn’t go on HAAF but I didn’t recognize certain areas of Savannah. The very nice area I lived in briefly before moving into base housing was a slum. I locked my doors like Chevy Chase driving through St. Louis.

Sadly, I won't be there to link up with some fellas this week. The joys of owning a restaurant. Was last there 10 years ago for the 20th. Was a great spot.
Laughter, tears, I've seen it all there to include some folks almost get thrown over the balcony.

LOL, I watched Doc Donavan straight up jack a 1/75 NCO in the jaw for nothing more than standing next to him when he was drunk at the upstairs bar, good times

I know Doc and wouldn’t wanna be that guy. He cracked me up. I loved jumping MFF with him. He fell like an anvil, always the low guy regardless of exit position and couldn’t land for shit.

Heard this and was floored. It's been coming, but I'd heard Vic managed to extend the lease for 5 years. RUMINT is what it is, however.

I would go to KBs anytime I was near SAV because I knew I'd likely encounter a brother, and get to hang out with the studs who adorn the walls. Don't know where to do that outside the gates of HAAF anymore....sad day.

It was supposed to close NYE, but got extended to the 24th with limited food/drinks, so there’s still a couple weeks to stop in.
