That's exactly how I see it if they come here to Nashville. We're already filling up at a faster rate than the infrastructure (especially the roads) can handle it. I hope we just made the Top 20 to see what's squeezable in benefits and breaks from a business friendly location. Hopefully they realize that Amazon coming is not worth the multi-year blowjob that's going to crown the winner.

Is this scenario really any different then what Bethlehem Steel did for the Lehigh Valley area back at the turn of last century?

It's American ingenuity and capitalism bubbling up and creating new opportunities. Even though those old steel mills are now casino's and museums, it was still a good 100 year run.

Soon they'll have their own university (ala Lehigh). I can see it now.... the woman's teams will be called the Amazon's

Put your cisgendered male privilege away! Sports teams of the future (which a progressive, supportive and accepting company like Amazon will support) will take players who self identify as any gender or species!

So what you meant was the humananimalmalefemalequestioningtransnonbinary team will be called the Amazon's.

I think I just threw up a little. And if it's a cold weather city my money is on Denver over Boston.

It is been happening here for the past few years. Unless you are truly committed to retiring and dying in your house, it still can work out good for you. There are houses in the downtown district that 10 years ago sold for $75,000, now people are selling them for $200,000, without having done one single thing in improvements or to upgrade. But you're definitely right, your tax bill will take the hit if you choose to stay.

I used to think the first part, but it's kind of weird how many companies have moved to the beltway area. But I have also been skeptical of how many are truly "headquartered". Discovery is moving out of Md. but they are the first to leave I can think of.

I doubt that. They'd be the biggest company outside of Sirrius XM to HQ in the district. If they move to the DC area they will have a smaller Government Affairs office/campus somewhere in DC but not the full load of the HQ behemoth.

Putting that many people in the District sucks from an actual operations standpoint, forget the taxes and real estate costs.

Although it is getting better under Hogan, the current Republican Governor, under O'Malley companies (and affluent people)were packing up and leaving MD due to the 40+ tax increases like the rain tax and the commode flush tax.

http://dailycaller.com/2015/09/01/af...under-omalley/

Hogan is offering $5B in tax breaks to get Amazon to move to Montgomery County, MD.

Alternative Headline: Hogan offering $5B in tax breaks to ensure he never gets elected again.

I think choosing which companies you start offering incentives play a huge role in the electoral demographic you're fostering. Wanting Amazon in your town as a (R) is like a chronic allergy sufferer wanting to live with an animal hoarder. Hogan should probably be picking his industries better. But, that's just like my opinion.

On news this morning, now LGBT groups are protesting and writing to Amazon asking them to exclude 10 of the cities on the list due to those cities not being protective enough of gay rights. Sigh...

More breathless speculation from Bezos’s own Wapo:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2018/02/26/the-amazon-headquarters-search-mystery-has-been-solved-or-has-it/?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_amazon-802am%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.191e3545c72e

Quote:
Amazon.com’s search for a site for its second headquarters is now playing out mostly behind closed doors, as officials from 20 finalist locations provide the company with additional materials.

In the vacuum, the tiniest shreds of information related to the HQ2 search are being examined with a level of scrutiny normally reserved for the Zapruder film or Bryce Harper’s coming free agency.

The Amazon search is a serious matter. The chosen city could reap 50,000 jobs and $4 billion in investments from the company. Taxpayers may be asked to foot billions of dollars of subsidies to win the deal. Housing markets and traffic patterns may be significantly affected by the company’s decision. A group backed by the Koch Brothers published a video opposing subsidies for the project. On the other hand, former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe suggested recently, in an interview, that “whoever wins this thing is going to run for president.”

Word around here is that it is now really down to NYC or the DC Metro area and Bezos is leaning toward DC simply because he spends so much time here in the area anyway. All speculation and rumor though. I am hoping they go to NYC.

Bezos has a house in DC and he splits his time with wapo there. I suspect btw the 2, it'll go to a suburb of DC if not simply for the real estate avail.

God I hope not. Last thing we need here is more cars on the roads and more fucking liberals. Apparently they are talking something like 50K new local jobs.

There was an article that came out about arlington i think. Something about it being environmentally friendly and the article got a ton of hits from amazon office internally.

Might as well bring all 50,000 of those liberals here to NY, wouldn't change a thing.

We can spread them out between Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island and Westchester and it would be business as usual around here.

Shoot Jeff can move in with his brother Mark down the road in Scarsdale.

Geez

That's the one on Central Park west, right? That's must've cost him a pretty penny.

Yeah, that's the one. 4 linked-together condos for a little under $13 million.
