Active School Shooting: Douglas HS Parkland, FL

That’s my High School. Know plenty of people there ( obviously) and my coworker’s husband was there during the gun fire.

Based on the design of the school, fatalities will be zero or very very bad.

I'm two blocks away. Just posted in the LEO forum. Lots of aircraft overhead. I'm at Condition 3.

This will probably be the most up to date source of information:

https://www.reddit.com/live/10g8j23bh6sfa/

At least twenty wounded, likely several fatalities. Conflicting reports on whether the shooter is outstanding.

To remember, and then go back to the ledgers and the commuter train, that was impossible. He knew he would eat his heart out if it ever came to that."

Lord have mercy. Another one of these, I'm at a loss for how to prevent this shit from happening, other than the obvious armed police/security at every school.

Prayers...

Fuck. 14 victims. Fuck.

Just told my wife to take the east-west road home rather than the north-south one to avoid the scene.

Speedy recovery to the injured. I hope the reports about supposed fatalities turn out to be false...

God’s speed to the dead and wounded. I have no problem with risk...to me. What scares me beyond words is the thought of this happening when my kid goes to school. You won’t know until after the fact, you’re not there, and there’s nothing you can do. It must be such a helpless feeling. All the more reason to square your kids away on the front end for a proper response just in case. Just goddam terrible.

One of my best friends was murdered.

Jumped in front of some kids trying to protect them.

I was the Best Man at his wedding.

Fuck.

That was Aaron, till the end.

This goes back to how we raise our kids and what we have allowed our society to become. This is a temper tantrum with a gun. This is the same kid who falls out kicking and screaming at the grocery store because he didn't get the candy he wanted and mommy either caves or lets him get away with it. The kid who was never taught how to lose and learn from it and do better next time. That the most effective way to deal with a bully is a punch in the nose. Kids who have never been in a playground tussle and when it was over found their new best friend.

Putting cops in every school is treating the symptoms, not the root cause.

We had guns at school all the time. I have literally walked down the hallway of my high school holding a variety of weapons and nobody blinked an eye. The thought of anyone doing something like this never crossed anyone's mind.

What was so different then versus now?

Our society. Corporal punishment. Discipline. Understanding that "Boys will be Boys". Church. Respect for your parents. Respect for authority in general.

It's not a mystery. We created a small Army of little monsters. Now we wonder why this is happening?

Yeah it's frustrating that it keeps happening. But we as a society created this.

RIP to the fallen. Again.
