Putting cops in every school is treating the symptoms, not the root cause.

We had guns at school all the time. I have literally walked down the hallway of my high school holding a variety of weapons and nobody blinked an eye. The thought of anyone doing something like this never crossed anyone's mind.

What was so different then versus now?

Our society. Corporal punishment. Discipline. Understanding that "Boys will be Boys". Church. Respect for your parents. Respect for authority in general.

It's not a mystery. We created a small Army of little monsters. Now we wonder why this is happening?

Yeah it's frustrating that it keeps happening. But we as a society created this.

RIP to the fallen. Again.
I am not a religious guy by any means, but the fact that people arenít raised with morals and general decency as is taught by church is IMO one of the biggest problems in our country.

Ted your friend died a warrior’s death and is a hero and I know you will ensure he is remembered in your circle. I will raise a glass in his honor. Tragic and senseless but it is our society today. Too many pussies with no discipline, sense of responsibility and little to no meaningful parental interaction. Hell, some is just crazy raising crazy.

Sorry about your friend Ted.

Putting himself between an active shooter and the kids...it does not get any braver than that.

My father taught high school for 35 years. What he noticed near the end of his career was the lack of guilt or knowing right vs wrong by many students. Take a look, just one example, of what young people post on face book these days. No idea of right or wrong , or shame. As my father said, "kids always did bad things , got in trouble. The difference is they use to know they were doing bad, tried to hide it, felt quilt. Now there is no quilt or trying to hide, no concept they are even doing wrong".

What a terrible tragedy. And instead of getting to the core of the problem as Sharky correctly lays out, the argument for tighter gun control laws will apply.

Ted,
Sorry to hear about your friend, a true hero in an age where many would have run the other way.

Prayers out for all the victims.

Initial reporting on social media was wrong, Coach Aaron Feis was NOT killed, but WAS shot and is in the hospital, condition currently unknown.

8:04 p.m.: A football coach is reportedly one staff member who put himself in between the killer and students. The Miami Herald reports that early accounts mistakenly said Feis had died but a colleague tweeted that he is only wounded

Prayers out
