A hero finally rests

Anthony C. Acevedo, age 93, died February 11th. He served in World War 2 as a medic assigned to 275th Infantry Regiment, 70th ID. Captured 6 January 1945, he and about 350 US soldiers were eventually sent to Berga, a satellite camp of Buchenwald. He was the first Mexican-American ever recognized as a Holocaust survivor.

He documented all of the American deaths he observed after being captured, using snow and urine to extend the ink in his fountain pen.

I don't think I can adequately summarize the rest of this long tribute to him.

Rest well, sir. You've certainly earned it.
