Puerto Rico is a Common Wealth.
they are part of the US territories, but they do not have representation in Congress and do not get to vote for President.
Make them a state and then we can merge the Olympic teams.

And contrary to the commercials run by bondholders looking to squeeze Puerto Rico for their debts owed, and scare viewers into thinking their tax money is going to Puerto Rico, there is no proposed bailout of Puerto Rico.
H.R. 4900, the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA), would restructure their debt while protecting taxpayers' money.
It is reasonable to believe that the greatest opposition to allowing Puerto Rico to restructure their debt are the banks that own that debt. Ads opposing PROMESA are being run by a 501(c)(4) called "The Center for Individual Freedom"... I love the patriotic names these organizations give themselves. A 501(c)(4) does not have to reveal it's donors, but I doubt it's the struggling seniors they show in their commercials.

Couldn't wait for the daily medal count...now, meh, who cares.
+1. The opening ceremonies were all about climate change; if they were really worried about reducing carbon release, they should have cancelled the Olympics because the amount released in all this construction and travel has to be enormous.

I fully admit I look forward to the Olympics every time. I hype it for my kids (who mostly don't care), and I especially enjoy watching all the events I'd otherwise never see...water polo, badminton, even rowing and swimming. Just watched women's archery, and fencing is starting now.

I agree the IOC is a vortex of political corruption and pandering, and agree with those who think the games should just go back to Greece and stay there (though I'd miss the Winter Olympics).

And based on what passes for achievement and skill among younger generations, I also wouldn't rule out that video gaming will be an Olympic event in my lifetime.

I enjoy the "sports" of the Olympics. I enjoy the competition of it, but it was cheesy and pathetic for them to use it as a front to make political statements. But, once governments get involved, they tend to ruin everything.

I am looking forward to today's swimming events. Australia will be hard to beat in a lot of the races.

I saw a segment about how some athletes will consume 6-8K calories per day during the games...it looks like some of the female archers have been doing this for awhile, too. But hey, you're an archer...enjoy.

ETA: Women's archery is still more entertaining than women's basketball. YMMV.

I usually watch even though my only real interest is the wrestling. I'm impressed by the athleticism or skill of the competitors even if I'm not interested in the event itself. The girl that won the air rifle event is obviously a skilled competitor, but the event has no business in the Olympics.

So with wrestling gone I have to say fuck them. If there is a more inclusive sport than wrestling I can't think of it. Any person of any size, race, creed etc can be a champion. Just more globalist hypocrisy. What's next? Get rid of track and field?

Everything I read says they reinstated wrestling for the 2020 games. Is this wrong?

You're correct. Did a search for "Olympic Wrestling 2020" and had to sift thru the results to find this one from ESPN.

How the hell could they eliminate one of the true charter sports dating back to the ancient games?

Looking forward to women's gymnastics, those girls have nerves of steel. I can't believe some of the stuff they do, and they always seem to up the ante every Olympics with some crazy new twist.

The Frenchman's leg snap was impressive...
His face was pure "Fuck! There goes my medal!"

Then the medics dropped the gurney with him on it.

Poor guy.

I'm guessing she decided to represent Egypt because it was her only chance of going to the Olympics. According to her Wiki, she finished 42nd in the 50m freestyle at the 2012 Olympics; there is no chance in hell she would've made the US team with that time.

This isn't uncommon.

I doubt the validity of that... Looks like a meme.
Pretty sure if he said that it would be front page news.

Comical though.

You're right. Seems Johnson made a remark about Trump watching the Olympics to see how the Mexican pole vaulters did. Guess this was made on the back of that.

However he's still an embarrassment.
